Drying foods and other items to rehydrate for later use is nothing new, it's been in use for centuries. But with the technology today, it's amazing just what you can create by simply adding a little water! Remember the Sea Monkey?
#1 Instant Underwear
Imagine how easy packing your bags for long journeys would be if you could carry all your vital essentials in a small tin can. Archie McPhee Company managed to take a bold step in this direction by creating emergency underpants you can create by just adding water. They even have hats, gloves and socks made to grow with a little watering. Still, we can't stop wondering what happens if you tinkle in your undies?
#2 Sea Monkeys
We have pretty much heard of instant-everything now, but have you ever heard of instant-pets? Sea-monkeys are the first of their kind. They are actual intelligent creatures that can be brought to life by simply adding some water in a tank. Of course, they are really just tiny brine shrimp, but early advertisers were onto something big when they packaged the dried up critters and sold millions over the years to children. Although it was cool that these creatures came to life by just adding water, many kids felt jilted real sea-monkeys looked nothing like the happy-go-lucky sea family as depicted in the ad, and none of them wore crowns.
#3 Powdered Alcohol
Carrying large volumes of alcohol around is a troublesome affair, and things are bound to get a little messy. Mark Phillips, a genius inventor, has created an absolute game-changer that will be adored by alcoholics around the world. He calls his product Palcohol, a powder that instantly converts into alcohol with the simple addition of water. So if your drink tastes watered down, you only have yourself to blame.
#4 Freeze-Dried Foods
If we are looking at a dystopian future, food is bound to be in shortage. This is why concepts like freeze-dried foods created by NASA will help us from turning on each other. These dehydrated and freeze-dried foods were first introduced during Project Gemini, and have now become an integral part of space missions. They are now even used on military missions in MRE packages.
#5 Chia Everything
Chias are everywhere now, and you get them in all sorts of shapes and sizes. The latest fad involves adding water to a Chia that inflates to become an actual President's head. They came out in the middle 70's, and there were 2 Chia Pets available, but over the years, millions have been sold in every shape from the Beatles heads to Homer Simpson and Elmer Fudd. The idea is simple, you place the herb seeds on the grooved clay sculpture, water, and wait for them to grow into a living herb plant. The company responsible for Ch=Ch-Ch-Chia also produced The Clapper.
#6 Japanese Sushi-Candy
File this one under,"No Thanks!" Leave it to the Japanese to create a truly multi-faceted product. Not only can you create some candy by adding water to this product, but the candy also tastes like sushi, just in case you were craving for some raw fish instead of a sugary sweet.
#7 Instant Toilet Paper
If we have to live through the next phase of environmental degradation, it is important that we start finding more novel ways of recycling our wastes. A Japanese company has been leading the way in this area by creating a machine that converts shredded paper into toilet paper by just adding one magical ingredient water. Let's hope we don't run out of water before the process is perfected.
#8 The Pyramids And Water
Contrary to popular belief, the Pyramids were not created by aliens. Creating an ancient wonder like the pyramids must not have been easy, especially considering the state of technology at that moment in time. A vital ingredient in making the pyramids come to life was water. The workers at the time created liquid bridges by adding water to the sand in order to make them easier to transport.
#9 Microscopic Origami
Researchers at the University of Twente in Netherlands have found a way to create origami at a microscopic level. They have taken a piece of silicon nitride, which is about the size of a grain of sand, and managed to fold in into different shapes using a single drop of water.
#10 Instant Superhero Toys
Action figures are great, but there is nothing like the real thing, right? Toy manufacturers have come to realize this fact, which is why they are promising something truly unique. You can now add water to this Spider-Man action figure, and within 72 hours, this product will grow to nearly 6 times its original size. It leaves one wondering how long it will be before they come up with a sexual enhancement product to make things 6 times bigger.
