#1 A Whole Lot Of Weed

While trying to install solar lights in his yard, Mack Reed discovered an underground access vault. When he opened the vault he found $175,000 worth of marijuana stuffed into various jars, bags, and packages and placed inside a green duffel bag. He called the police immediately and was told by the 911 operator that everyone was busy and he needed to drive the bag full of pot to the station. He decided that was not an option. Eventually, an officer came by to collect the stash. Fearing the person who left the drugs would return, Mack left a note on the vault saying: ‘We found it and called the LAPD. They confiscated it and now are watching the place. Sorry.'

#2 Free Ferrari

Two small kids were in their backyard trying to dig a hole to China, in Los Angeles in 178 when they discovered something unusual. It was a buried Ferrari. After the police came, they excavated the car and discovered it was a stolen vehicle from 4 years before. The thieves had buried it in the yard with intentions of retrieving it sometime later. Once it was unearthed, the Ferrari's original owner was identified and they received a substantial payout from their insurance company. The mechanic who restored it ended up buying it and the car went on to exchange owners a few times over the next several decades. Its current owner has given it the license plate ‘DUG UP'.

#3 Alligator In A Swimming Pool

You're apt to see many different animals in your backyard, especially if you live in the country. But Sharon Bente and her husband in Bradenton Florida were shocked when they went outside for an early morning coffee on the patio and saw a huge alligator swimming in the pool. They found was an eight-foot alligator doing laps around their pool. The gator also appeared to be playing with a small floating toy. They called in a professional, who trapped the gator and released it into the wild.

#4 An Angry Cheetah

Sorry alligator couple, but you've been outdone. Julie-Ann Taylor thought her nine-year-old son was lying when he said, "Mummy, there's a cheetah in the garden and it's eating my bike". To be fair, she had good reason to doubt him, what with the cheetah population in Cambridgeshire, England being exactly zero. But sure enough, when she looked outside, there he was, strolling through their yard looking for something to eat. Apparently, it had escaped from the nearby Hamerton Zoo and was taking a leisurely stroll through the neighborhood. Zoo officials arrived and trapped the cheetah in the family's stable before transporting it back to the zoo. The big cat took a bite out of one handler's arm before being caged.

#5 Not One, But Multiple Meteorites

Finding a piece of a meteorite is a once in a lifetime thing if that. But for a Serbian man, it has happened six times already! All in his own backyard. For some strange reason, the man's small property in northern Bosnia seems to attract falling space rocks. It's happened so often that the poor man is convinced he's being targeted by aliens! The meteorites always fall when it rains, so he has a phobia about rain and has reinforced his roof with thick steel just in case.

#6 A Secret Fallout Shelter

When the Zwick family moved into their new Wisconsin home they were a little creeped out by the mysterious metal hatch they found in the middle of their backyard. But they let the foliage grow over it and forgot about it, for awhile. One day they decided to inspect the hatch and when they did, they found a set of ladder stairs leading down into a tunnel. Would it be a treasure room? An underground lair? A torture chamber? No. It turned out to be a fallout shelter from the Cold War days, complete with survival gear, food rations, and even medical supplies.

#7 $10 Million In Rare Coins

In 2013 a Nevada couple was walking their dog on a stretch of their property when they noticed a tin can sticking out from a pile of dirt. So they dug it out and OMG, it was full of coins. Valuable historical coins! The gold coins dated back to the 1890s and were perfectly preserved. Naturally, this little find caused the couple to rush back to the spot where they discovered seven more cans containing 1,373 old coins. Some of the coins had never been in circulation and were in mint condition. The find made them highly sought after by coin collectors. The treasure haul was valued at a whopping $10 million.

#8 A Whale Fossil

California teenager Gary Johnson was interested in paleontology and wanted to find a fossil of his own. In 1978 he did just that when he noticed something sticking up from the dirt in his backyard. Thinking it might be a fossil, he called up an expert and got it evaluated. The expert said, "Bad luck, kid. It's just a stupid rock." But Gary wasn't convinced. Thirty-five years later, he saw a news story about the skull of a twelve-million-year-old sperm whale that had been found in the area. He immediately thought about that old stone that had sat in his backyard for over thirty-five years. He decided to call another expert this time a paleontologist from the Natural History Museum. The paleontologist confirmed Gary was right. The rock was the fossilized remains of a sixteen-million-year-old baleen whale.

#9 Ancient Remains

In 2014, a man from Utah got a very spooky surprise while digging in his backyard. He was trying to dig out a small pond when his shovel unexpectedly struck something hard. When he took a closer look he discovered ancient human remains! He called the police fearing someone had been murdered and left on his property. After determining this wasn't a recent murder, the police sent the bones away for testing. It turned out they were the bones of a Native American man who lived roughly a thousand years ago.

#10 Lois Lane

In 1996 when the actress Margot Kidder showed up outside their California, an elderly couple was shocked. She was sleeping in their yard for weeks and when they threatened to call the police she said, "I may not look like it, but I'm Margot Kidder!" That did not impress the couple and they phoned the police. Margot, who's most famous for playing Lois Lane in the Christopher Reeve Superman movies, is considered one of the classiest and most dignified starlets. She had been reported missing 3 days before but was not seen for several weeks before the couple found her in their yard. She was taken to a mental health facility and diagnosed with bipolar disorder and is getting treatment.
