Falling in love at first sight

There used to be a time when a person would fall in love at first sight while having the courage to approach that person. We aren't saying that falling in love at first sight no longer happens. But, instead of walking up to the person, nowadays we are more likely to stalk the person on social media to get to know them instead of doing it in person. That is really not romantic.

Guys used to get creative.

Movies like this were literally our lives. Guys used to do grand romantic gestures, especially if they were in the doghouse, to win our hearts. These days, you are lucky if you get a cute GIF in your inbox.

They didn't give up that easily.

Back in the day, there were no breakup texts and Tinder revenge. Relationships used to be valued and treated as such. One night stands and instant hookups just were not a thing. People used to try much harder to keep their relationships back then.

It was all or nothing.

This was just the mentality back then. You either gave your all to a relationship or you moved on. Ladies, remember the first guy to tell you "it was all or nothing" or something along those lines? Words like that would instantly melt our hearts and turn our legs into Jello.

Anonymous love notes

These were simple, meaningful messages crafted out of pure love. After all, nothing says "I love you" like a gift from the heart and made by hand. We did not need big expensive gestures. A simple note could make our day.

The magic of a corded telephone

There was nothing better than spending hours, stuck in one place, talking on the phone with the person that you loved. If you have never spent hours twirling a phone cord around your finger, you don't know what love is.

An endless stream of flowers

Guys used to bring flowers when they took you out on a date. They also used to walk up to the front door and ring the doorbell to collect you for your date. Nowadays, you get a text letting you know he is out front and might get flowers on special occasions, but only if you have hinted around that you really want flowers. Guys don't bring them "just because" anymore.

Standing outside with a boombox

If this has never happened to you personally, you probably know at least one person this has happened to. Back then, we had movies with great male role models who taught our men what women really want out of a romantic gesture.

Making you a mixtape

They say that music is the language of the soul. For that reason, getting or making a mixtape was a heartfelt gesture that males and females loved. This was a gesture that definitely went both ways. I can remember spending hours finding just the right songs to let my guy know how I felt. I also remember receiving mixtapes and the hours I spent trying to determine what each song meant for our relationship.

Drive-in movie theaters

Nothing was more romantic than wrapping up in a blanket with your significant other while watching a movie at the drive-in. I would take this any day over Netflix and chill.
