10 Signs That Your Kidneys Aren’t Working Properly
Every day our minds process tons of information, our bodies perform thousands of actions. Living in this busy world makes it very easy to miss some messages that your body sends you. And the consequences of not communicating and responding to these signals can be drastic.
We have made a list of signs which indicate that your kidneys are not working properly. How many of these signals have your body been sending to you?
Trouble sleeping
When your kidneys are not functioning properly, it means that toxins cannot exit the body through urine and remain in the blood. Increased level of toxins make it hard to fall asleep. That’s why when you get less sleep, you increase the chances of kidney function decline.
Warning: People with Chronic Kidney Disease more commonly suffer from sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a disorder that causes one or more pauses in the breath when you sleep. These pauses can last from a couple of seconds to a minute. After each pause, normal breathing returns with a loud snort. Continuous heavy snoring signals that it is time to see a doctor.
Swollen Feet & Ankles.
Fluid retention is a definite sign that something is up with your body’s excretory system. One of the primary ways the kidneys keep your body balanced and deliver nutrients is by regulation of water. If these organs are not functioning well, fluid can accumulate in your tissues. Usually, you notice the swelling at your ankles, feet, face, or hands. Your legs might also swell.
Pain in Abdomen
As kidneys are situated in the rear of the abdominal cavity, where our digestive organs also rest, it’s challenging to differentiate kidney pain from common stomach pains. Generally, kidney pain concentrates around the edges of the abdomen and back.
Anemia
As mentioned prior, your kidneys produce red blood cells stimulating EPO. Without EPO, you can not make enough red blood cells and hence resulting in anemia. Anemia has a wide range of symptoms, this includes feeling winded, out of breath, chilly (Even if the environment is warm) And very dizzy. The reason for all of these symptoms is a lack of oxygen, which is the primary function of red blood cells.
Rashes Or Itching
The accumulation of uric acid and waste products may produce itchy red patches on the skin. As the root cause of the symptom extends below the surface of the skin, over-the-counter (OTC) medications and other treatments are ineffective. Should such skin problems persist, seek the advice of your family doctor or dermatologist.
Headaches, fatigue and general weakness
Healthy and properly functioning kidneys convert Vitamin D in our bodies to maintain strong bones and to produce a hormone called Erythropoietin (EPO). This hormone plays an important role in the production of red blood cells. When kidneys don’t function properly, they produce less EPO. The decline of red blood cells (those that carry oxygen) results in rapid fatigue of your muscles and brain.
Warning: It is common for people with Chronic Kidney Disease to have anemia. Anemia might start to evolve when someone has 20% to 50% of normal kidney function. If you’re getting enough rest and sleep, but continue experiencing feelings of tiredness, low energy levels and general weakness, you should visit your doctor without delay.
Nausea
It’s understandable to be nauseated if your kidneys are letting waste store into your system (this is often called uremia) of-course being normally nauseated without the combination of some of the symptoms don’t say that your suffering some issue that relates to kidney failure or issues.
High Blood Pressure
Kidneys also serve as regulators of blood pressure. When they’re not functioning properly, they can not control high blood pressure. The rapid influx of blood stretches the blood vessels, which may cause further damage by scarring blood vessels in and around the kidneys.
A Bad Taste In Your Mouth:
If your kidneys are failing to remove toxins (we discussed uremia a little while ago), it is possible that this causes a metallic taste in your mouth and might even result in bad breath. You may also feel that the food you eat doesn’t taste the same (Meat most often high meat consumption attributes to kidney stress along with leafy vegetables). This can dull you appetite which causes you to lose alot of weight at once.
Puffiness around your Eyes.
You're experiencing persistent puffiness around your eyes. Protein in the urine is an early sign that the kidneys’ filters have been damaged, allowing protein to leak into the urine. This puffiness around your eyes can be due to the fact that your kidneys are leaking a large amount of protein in the urine, rather than keeping it in the body.
Poor Apetite
You have a poor appetite. This is a very general symptom, but a buildup of toxins resulting from reduced kidney function can be one of the causes.
Changes In Your Urine – Appearance, Frequency, Etc.
It makes sense to pay attention to urinary output, color and frequency when you’re taking note of your kidney function. After all, producing urine is one of the main things the kidneys do, so if you see any of the following changes, it might signal a kidney problem:
Urination is difficult.
You see blood in your urine.
Urination occurs less frequently, and when you do go, it appears very dark.
On the other hand, an increase in urine output and a lighter color can also indicate a problem (if it can’t be attributed to something obvious, such as drinking a lot of water).
Urine appears foamy or bubbly.
You wake during the night (sometimes more than once) with the urgent need to go.
WHY DO KIDNEYS MALFUNCTION?
It could be because of an acidic diet (a kind of diet that most of us have) A new study shed slight on the problems that can be caused by an acidic diet or a high meat -rich diet. The study followed fifteen hundred people with kidney diseases for a period of around fourteen years. People having a high meat content diet came close to kidney failure.
