The 10-year-old boy was reported as being 'unharmed'
Oklahoma police recently received a heart-wrenching 911 call from a 10-year-old boy who awoke to find his entire family deceased.
On the morning of Monday, April 22, at 9:35 am, a young boy from Yukon, Oklahoma, made a desperate call to emergency services from his home at 2804 Mirage Street.
The boy reported to the authorities that he had discovered his family—his 39-year-old mother Lindsay Candy, his 42-year-old father Jonathon Candy, and his three siblings, 18-year-old Dylan, 14-year-old Ethan, and 12-year-old Lucas—all dead.
According to the Oklahoma Police report, officers responded immediately, arriving at the scene to find the boy waiting outside the house.
Upon entering the residence, they confirmed the tragic reality—the family of five were all deceased, beyond any help.
"The five beyond saving," as Oklahoma City Police Sergeant Gary Knight described during a press briefing.
The report further clarified, "All five had been shot to death."
The police conducted interviews with neighbors, friends, and other relatives as part of their investigation.
It appears that the family tragedy stemmed from an altercation between Jonathon Candy and his wife.
Authorities believe that after the dispute, Jonathon "armed himself with a gun and killed" Lindsay and three of their children before ultimately taking his own life.
The 10-year-old boy, who was the one to call the police, miraculously remained unharmed and was later released to family members present at the scene.
"We don't know why he was left unharmed," Sgt. Knight stated.
He acknowledged the pressing questions surrounding the boy's survival, admitting, "It's a question we have too. In the end, nobody's ever going to know the answer to that."
Sgt. Knight expressed bewilderment over what might have driven Mr. Candy to commit such a heinous act, noting that there had been "no calls to that residence regarding any type of domestic abuse, no history from them showing any type of domestic problems being reported" to the police.
"However," Sgt. Knight emphasized, "make no mistake about it, what happened in that residence was nothing short of a massacre. Those children were hunted down and killed."
The Candy family, in a statement carried by Fox News, shared their profound grief: "Our entire family has been left shattered and confused with so many questions we won’t ever have answers to. Jonathon was the one whose jokes and goofy attitude kept everyone smiling. Aside from these events, his children and wife were his entire life. I simply can’t fathom what went on but please, hug your family tight. It’s going to be a very long healing process for everyone affected."
The incident is currently under investigation as a quadruple murder/suicide.
Authorities have urged, "Anyone with information should call the Homicide Tip-Line at 405/297-1200."
