The "sharp as a tack" centenarian revealed his secret to living a long life to 9 News.

While most individuals his age can point to a list of activities they do to maintain their health, he believes his longevity is due to "not so much what I've done, but what I haven't done."

He joked: "I'm well. The bloke inside the failing body is alright."

He said it's important to "live sensibly, breathe regularly, think positively, and live hopefully" in life.

But he believes that two things in particular, which he has always avoided, are the key to his long life: smoking and drinking.

Gordon revealed that in his 106 years on earth, he has never smoked a cigarette or consumed an alcoholic beverage.

While some around him are envious of his longevity, Gordon seems unconcerned.

“I can’t say it’s much of an achievement, it just happened to me, which I’m very happy for it to have done,” he said.

Shirley Burton, Gordon's daughter, says her father "takes life as it comes" and isn't astonished he's reached such a grand old age.

Marian Hall, another daughter, recalls her father being quite active with the children when she was a child.

Her cheerful father was "kind and always there," she added, and the family did a lot of things together.

Gordon's remarkable life experiences have shaped how he lives, and he acknowledges that since growing up during the Great Depression, he's always been frugal.
