The World Records, in theory, are amazing and seemingly unattainable. The record holders are astoundingly strong or fast or otherwise able to push the limits of human ability. Over the years, though, these world record categories have become increasingly bizarre—and I’m not just talking about people with abnormally long fingernails. Some of these records are incredibly specific, while others just prompt questions about the record holder’s sanity. The following 11 records only scratch the surface of the weirdness recorded by Guinness World Record judges. If you’ve always wanted to have your name attached to a world record, though, the wide variety of options represented here might just give you some ideas ... or some hope.
#1 The most slam dunks by a parrot in 60 seconds.
In terms of world records, Zac the Macaw is quite an accomplished bird. In addition to dunking 22 Wiffle balls in a minute, he's also managed to set another world record for opening 35 canned drinks in 60 seconds.
Zac's accomplishments are partially attributable to his trainers, Julie and Ed Cardoza of San Jose, California. They've been training birds for over 20 years and often show off their birds' talents to the delight of local audiences.
#2 The most wins at the World Beard and Mustache Championships.
This dapper gentleman is Karl-Heinz Hille and his impressive beard/mustache combo has earned him 8 wins at this global celebration of facial hair.
The championships are based more on styling than size, so Hille may not have the largest beard, but he apparently has the world's best-looking one.
#3 The most apples held in one's mouth and cut with a chainsaw in one minute.
This is probably a record that British sideshow performer Johnny Strange will hold for a long time because it's hard to picture much competition for this one. But at a Tattoo Jam held in South Yorkshire, England, he managed to split eight apples with his chainsaw while holding them in his mouth before a minute had elapsed.
Whatever bar argument this record would settle can probably be heard around last call.
#4 The Most Big Macs eaten in a lifetime.
Viewers of Morgan Spurlock's McDonald's documentary Super Size Me may remember Don Gorske as the world's most dedicated Big Mac enthusiast. Well, now it's official.
After eating his 26,000th Big Mac in October of 2012, he was given the lifetime award by the Guinness World Records committee for eating the burgers daily for 40 years. Gorske averages two Big Macs per day, but limits his intake to one when he travels.
#5 The longest time spent spinning a basketball on a toothbrush.
It's unknown how exactly this challenge came about, but its current holder, Michael Kopp of Hamburg, Germany, is third person to set a world record for spinning a basketball on a toothbrush held in one's mouth.
And if you're looking to be the fourth, you'll have to beat his time of 26.078 seconds.
#6 The world's largest sushi mosaic.
It looks amazing and apparently took over 100 sushi chefs to complete, but hopefully they started eating soon after this photo because I wouldn't want to be around that when it goes bad.
The mosaic was made with mackerel and an imitation crab meat and takes up 451 square feet and 140 square inches.
#7 The farthest arrow shot using the feet.
Most of the examples on the list are a question of why someone would do their record setting activity, but a better question for this one is how you could possibly do it.
Not only did contortionist Nancy Siefker manage to guide her arrow into a target 20 feet away with her feet, but she hit a target that only measured 5.5 inches in diameter. Since the Guinness World Record rules if you can imagine coming up with rules for this state that the target can't exceed a foot in diameter, Siefker's feat is impressive indeed.
#8 The wealthiest cat.
Before British millionaire Ben Rea died in 1988, he bequeathed the equivalent of $12.5 million to his cat, Blackie. The majority of wealth went to cat-related charities, while his family received nothing.
Blackie was apparently also the sole survivor of the 15 cats Rea shared his home with and he attached instructions to ensure the cat was well cared-for.
#9 The most toilet seats broken with the head in 60 seconds.
Again, it's unknown how Kevin Shelley arrived at the idea to break wooden toilet seats over his head, but he was able to destroy 46 in a minute.
He demonstrated his ability on the German set of the Guinness World Records TV show in 2007.
#10 The most vehicles to run over a person.
Normally, this kind of record would be the result of an incredibly unfortunate accident, but Tom Owen intentionally allowed 9 pickup trucks to run over his stomach.
The stunt was completed on the set of Lo Show Dei Record in Milan, Italy and each truck weighed between thee and four tons.
#11 The world's loudest penis.
I didn't even know this was a quality anyone could have, but an aquatic insect known as the tiny water boatman can make up to 99.2 decibels of noise by rubbing its penis against its abdomen.
Also known as Micronecta scholtzi, the insect performs this "singing" as a means of attracting potential mates.
