An 11-year-old Mississippi boy, shot by a police officer after calling 911 for help, has been released from the hospital, while his family demands the officer's firing and charges.
11-Year-Old Boy Calls Police About Mom’s Domestic Disturbance But Cop Ends Up Shooting The Child
After calling 911 when his mother's ex-partner unexpectedly showed up at their home during the night, an 11-year-old child was shot in the chest by police and is now recovering.
Mississippi native Aderrien Murry was admitted to the hospital but has since been released. His mother, Nakala Murry, recalled how she was sound sleeping when her window was knocked on at around 4 a.m. on Saturday, revealing her furious ex-partner.
"I noticed he was kind of irate. And from dealing with him in the past, I know the irate version of him, what it could lead to," she said.
Aderrien, her 11-year-old son, was given her phone and instructed to call his grandmother.
The 4-foot-10-inch child chose to call 911 first, then his grandmother.
She also requested police support.
Nearly 100 miles to the northwest of Jackson, in Indianola, two police officers responded to a distress call.
Murry claimed that while her ex-partner was still present, officers shouted at her to unlock the front door.
"My child's father was still there. [My son] was like: 'Don't open the door.' I was telling him that I'm going to open the door," she recalled.
"He ran toward the back, [and police] started kicking on the door with their foot, like they were trying to break it down."
"He was telling me to come out. I went out, I got out of the way. I walked out toward the end of my driveway where my mom was. And I heard a shot and I saw my son run out toward where we were."
She said that her 11-year-old kid was found bleeding to death.
Her son spoke to her in a whisper while she applied pressure to the wound.
She recalled: "He kept asking, ‘Why did he shoot me? What did I do wrong?’”
The mother afterward criticized the trigger-happy police, claiming there was no way her young kid could have been mistaken for an adult person.
According to CNN, the family's attorney Carlos Moore is now requesting "a full and transparent investigation" into the shooting.
The youngster is traumatized, the attorney continued and will need counseling.
"This 11-year-old child was about 4 feet 10 it looks like and so he could not have been confused," Moore said.
"So we don’t know what happened, but we do know this officer’s actions were reckless, very reckless, and could have led to the loss of life."
According to Moore, the youngster "did everything right" and was a "good student" who complied with his mother's request to contact for assistance.
