The 90s was full of crazy products that kids nowadays would scratch their head at. We are here to pass on that wisdom of the things we got a chance to enjoy back then. You might have to explain some of these things to your kids, but here are 12 things that might be confusing for them.
12 Things From The 90s That Kids Today Would Not Understand
JNCO Jeans
These jeans were the biggest craze among the skater and club kid scene. They were incredibly comfortable, but they were also incredibly ugly. You were not cool if you did not own at least one pair of these.
Floppy Disks
With having our hard drives built right into our computer screens, kids these days will never know what it is like to use a floppy disk or having to swap out disks to change programs. They have it too good nowadays with everything build right into their hard drives.
Comb Headbands
These were the product of pairing a banana clip with a headband. They were not that cute for women, but men used to wear them too. While David Beckham could pull off just about anything and still look good, most could not say the same.
*NSYNC vs. Backstreet Boys
This was not just a battle of who has the best music. It was also a battle of which group was hotter in the looks category.
Heinz's Colorful Ketchup
While kids nowadays would probably find this to be gross, it was something that was totally cool and we loved it back in the 90s. These were like our Tide Pods, but at least they were certified as edible.
This Sound
Today, kids would freak out if they heard this sound coming out of their computers. They might think they are picking up the signal of some alien invasion instead of connecting to the internet. They will never understand how hard getting online used to be for us back then.
Beepers or Pagers
We did not have fancy portable phones that have facial recognition back then. We had pagers that let us know when someone needed us to call them. While they seem low-tech to us now, they were still really cool to those of us who had them. We even had secret number codes to send secret messages to friends. Take that, emojis!
POGs
POGs were something that both kids and adults collected. This popular game spread like wildfire back in the 90s. It was a modern version of marbles vs pick up sticks. I know I had a massive collection and was always looking out for the newest, hottest, slammer.
The O.J. Trial
This was the most watched trial in history, watched by more than 90 million people. He was clearly guilty, but we all sat at the edge of our seats to see what a jury and a lot of money would make of his crimes.
Bop It!
Have fun explaining to kids today how Bop It was a thousand times more fun than any fidget spinner. First, it had a catchy tune. Second, you have to play with a friend. Solo Bop It was unheard of. It was one game that forced you to be social unlike many games today.
Full House
Friends was not the only sitcom in the 90s. There were a ton of great shows back then like Full House, Seinfeld, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and Roseanne just to name a few. It was a great era for family-friendly television that we could all enjoy.
Anti-Marijuana PSAs
A huge part of the 90s was the "Just Say No" commercials that appeared on just about every network. If you let commercials like these tell you anything, it was that everyone, including your local grocer, was smoking pot. It was as if the 70s either never happened or it caused a massive amount of people to get hooked on mary jane for years.
