13 Fun Facts About 'The Nanny'

The '90s were great, weren't they? Not only could people get away with wearing faded flannel anywhere they went, but pop culture seemed to be way better too. Seriously, the '90s were my heyday. Everything on the radio sounded better, movies were more exciting AND, of course, TV was better. Shows like Full House, Fresh Prince Of Bel Air and Roseanne made for easy laughs and valuable life lessons while others like Home Improvement had us all grunting like cavemen at our TV sets. But whenever someone starts a discussion about the best '90s sitcoms, I feel like one always gets forgotten: The Nanny.
Fran Drescher's hilarious situational comedy saw a rough-around-the-edges housekeeper rubbing off on the hoity-toity lifestyle of a wealthy Broadway producer and his family. Needless to say, the show was great. Don't believe me? Well, then look at these cool facts and get back to me.
1. Fran Drescher's real love life struggled throughout the show's success.
As the show became more and more popular, Drescher struggled to maintain her own relationship to her husband, series producer Peter Marc Jacobson. They would divorce in 1999.
2. Fans used to complain about Max Sheffield's British accent.
They used to say that Niles the butler's accent was much better, which is funny because the actor who played Maxwell was British and the actor who played Niles was American.
3. C.C. Babcock's dog on the show was Drescher's in real life.
His name was Chester!
4. Daniel Davis's accent was so believable that the entire cast and crew thought he was actually British.
He didn't tell them he was American until after the first episode was filmed.
5. C.C. Babcock was actually pregnant throughout the entire fifth season.
I think they did a pretty good job at hiding the actress's baby bump!
6. There was an attempt at a spin-off series.
The show was set to be called The Chatterbox, but things clearly didn't pan out. The show was based around Fran's favorite beauty parlor.
7. After his divorce from Fran, Peter Marc Jacobson announced that he was gay.
Fran was completely shocked as she said the two had a very intimate relationship.
The two remain close friends.
8. Fran's parents on the show were named after her parents in real life.
Good ol' Morty and Sylvia.
9. The actress who played Fran's grandmother was only five years older than the actress who played Fran's mother.
Morgan Guilbert, who played the grandmother, was born in 1928 and Renee Taylor, who played Sylvia Fine, was born in 1933.
10. There was a Turkish version of the show.

Proudly running the Giritli household is the butler Pertev (Haldun Dormen), who watches all events with a bemused eye and levels problems with his quick wit. Pertev quickly recognizes Melek's gift at bringing warmth back to the family. Suzan (Seray Sever), Ömer's socialite business associate, views Melek with a mixture of skepticism and jealousy, as she has designs on the very available Giritli herself."

11. There were only supposed to be two children in the family.
