This optical illusion is known as the Ames room, a room that is slanted such that, though it appears to be a cube, it is in fact a trapezoid. The ceiling and floor are at an incline, and the walls are slanted. Whereas it appears that the two people are standing level with each other, the person standing on the right is in fact much closer to the observer than the person on the left is.
