It's no surprise that lots of people judge how good or bad a movie is based on its score on Rotten Tomatoes. That's because critics on Rotten Tomatoes are often pretty damn savage. That being said, every now and then they review a movie with such good grades that you can't miss it. Here are a few.
16 Excellent Movies That Scored Nearly Perfectly On Rotten Tomatoes
1. Zootopia (98%)
I remember having low hopes for this film when it came out. I think I felt that I would be annoyed at the sloth scene that was shown in the trailers. However, I was 100% wrong. This film was super hilarious, witty, and charming.
2. Rear Window (100%)
It's no surprise that Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window received a perfect score on the Tomatometer. This is a must-see classic film that everyone ought to watch at least once in their lifetime, and with a 95% audience rating, I'm clearly not the only one to think so!
3. Gloria (99%)
Gloria proves that a movie doesn't have to be a Hollywood blockbuster to be amazing! This is a feel-good film about getting another chance to start over in life and loving yourself, a film that truly inspires all of us.
4. Shaun the Sheep Movie (99%)
If you love Wallace and Gromit or even Chicken Run, then you are guaranteed to be smitten with this movie. Just like those movies, the plot is ridiculously silly and hilarious, yet cohesive enough for all ages to fall in love with it!
5. Inside Out (98%)
It's really hard to choose a favorite Pixar movie, but Inside Out is right up there on my list! It was surprisingly touching, heartbreaking, and hilarious all at once. It will definitely give you all the feels.
6. Toy Story (100%)
In my opinion, this movie should be breaking the Tomatometer. Toy Story is such an emotional and feel-good movie, and we definitely all wished that we had toys like Woody and Buzz back in the day!
7. Finding Nemo (99%)
Here's another movie that deserves at least 50% higher score than it received. Finding Nemo is a classic Pixar film for all ages that brings the laughs, the tears, and all the smiles. It's difficult to NOT quote this film on the daily!
8. Leviathan (99%)
Set in a Russian coastal town, this movie centers on a family's home that is under threat of being destroyed by the town's corrupt mayor. Critics were clearly not bothered by the fact that this movie lacks a happy ending. That's how you know it's good!
9. Short Term 12 (99%)
Short Term 12 will be sure to get you into watching indie flicks if you haven't already. While the film deals with the tough subject of the struggles of the foster care system, hope is definitely not lost at the end of it.
10. Frankenstein (100%)
How could this classic horror flick not receive a perfect score? While I grew up on Young Frankenstein, this original horror movie captures Mary Shelley's written vision and offers a glimpse at her tale brought to life!
11. Up (98%)
How this movie didn't receive 100% is a mystery to me. I don't need Rotten Tomatoes critics to tell me otherwise! This movie truly takes the viewer on an emotional roller coaster — it's funny, sad, happy, and stressful all at once, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
12. A Separation (99%)
If you've seen this 2011 international film, you know that there is no barrier in understanding how amazing it is. This film follows the hardships of a separated family in Iran whose lives become even more complicated after the husband lands himself into some legal trouble with the woman who looks after his father.
13. The Wizard of Oz (99%)
Are we really shocked that the classic masterpiece The Wizard of Oz scored 99% on the Tomatometer? Absolutely! Because it should have scored 100%! I think it's safe to say we were all enchanted by its fabulous storytelling, although I'm not a fan of tornadoes.
14. Man on Wire (100%)
I think it's safe to say that this documentary about artist Philippe Petit gave us all a few imaginary heart attacks. Not only did he dance for an hour on a wire suspended between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, he was also arrested for it.
15. Selma (99%)
This film received a lot of attention back in 2015 — and for good reason! Chronicling Martin Luther King Jr's civil rights journey from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, critics expressed how well David Oyelowo captured the activist's legacy and they also mentioned how far we still need to go.
16. Get Out (99%)
If you haven't seen Get Out yet, you probably have everyone around you exclaiming, "Get ouuuuut!" This movie was definitely a stressful one and is very deserving of its 99% Tomatometer rating.
