20 Of The Greatest Love Confessions In Anime (and Manga)
#1. Urabe Mikoto and Tsubaki Akira (Mysterious Girlfriend X)
I like to think that these two eventually lead long lives together as a couple, as the ending indicates they might. Then they could have kids someday and tell the ultimate How I Met Your Mother tale. Can you imagine?
"Well, sweetie, it all started with your mother's drool"
#2. Tomoya and Nagisa (Clannad)
Don't tell me you didn't think this would be on here. Yes, all the other girls were great, too, but Tomoya and Nagisa were melting our hearts from episode one. Watching Tomoya bring Nagisa to a classroom vividly lit by the fading sunset and telling her how he felt? Completely, utterly, perfect.
#3. Suzuka and Yamato (Suzuka)
I'll admit I'm not much of a Kouji Seo fan, but he does do a great job when it comes to setting a relationship up. Suzuka and Yamato's romance could be tumultuous at the best of times, but seeing Suzuka finally move past her previous crush (who died right after confessing to her, I might add), was an incredibly redeeming moment in this series.
4. Risa and Atsushi (Lovely Complex)
Sometimes the classics are the best. No fancy plan, elaborate dress (well, there is a yukata, but whatever), or clever stage to deliver your confession. Instead, your instinct takes over, and as fireworks fill the air above, you just come straight out and tell the person your feelings, as Risa did for Atsushi.
#5. Hirono and Miyako (Ef: A Tale of Memories)
Besides being a great couple, this gets credit for being one of the most dramatic confessions I've ever seen. Imagine if you were given a minute to convince the girl you love not to leave you over the phone. Then make sure a timer is playing in front of you while you try to do it, and you have the general situation for this confession. That being said, the final moment when Hirono finds Miyako and drops the phone to yell out his feelings is just great!
#6. Ryuuji and Taiga (Toradora!)
Remember guys and girls, if you really, really want someone's attention, just shove them off a bridge. Works every time.
Well, it's only been tried once that I know of, but it did work.
#7. Inner Moka and Tsukune (Rosario + Vampire Season II; Manga)
This one was actually a little sad, but epic nonetheless. These two managed to confess their love to each other inside a magic bubble while in the middle of fighting Alucard, the most powerful vampire to have ever lived in the Rosario+Vampire world. Of course, Inner Moka has to disappear right after for them to truly defeat Alucard Or does she?
#8. The Dark Flame Master and Wicked Eye (Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!)
It takes guts to roleplay the moment you ask a girl out. Even if she was already a little delusional, major props to this guy for preparing just what she'd like for the big line, even if she did end up interrupting him.
#9. Hideki and Chi (Chobits)
Hideki isn't the first ani-man to accept a robot's love, but he definitely gets points for following through with it regardless of the limitations. Being in love with Chi and never being able to have sex would be a little... hard.
#10. Chihiro and Katsuragi (The World God Only Knows)
Man, if you'd told me that this was the pairing the series would end with, I'd have never believed it. And yet, after their third moment together, when Chihiro confessed to Katsuragi despite all his misgivings and misunderstandings of romance, we couldn't help but be entranced.
#11. Hinata and Naruto (Naruto)
Hinata struggled to tell Naruto her feelings from the get go. Some of us (maybe me) wondered if Naruto would ever discover how she felt. Luckily for Naruhina fans everywhere, she did! And rather than wait for a quiet moment alone, she told Naruto in the heat of battle, right after leaping in front of him to put him out of harm's way. Nevermind that it was ignored.
#12. Nodoka and Negi (Mahou Sensei Negima!)
I have a really bad habit of rooting for the underdogs in anime love triangles, but can you blame me for one this adorable? Similar to the Hinata and Naruto situation, much of the appeal in this confession came from watching Nodoka build up the courage to actually tell Negima her feelings, though it doesn't take quite as long in this case. Now if we actually knew who Negima actually chose, life would be just golden, but nooo...! Why do you hate us, Ken?
#13. Haibara and Conan (Detective Conan: Captured in Her Eyes)
LET ME HAVE MY MOMENT.
#14. Daisuke and Riku (D.N. Angel)
Misunderstandings in love are a dime a dozen in anime, but this one left a lot of viewers pretty happy. The girl thought the boy liked her sister. The boy chased the girl down the beach to prove otherwise. The rest, dear readers, I leave to you.
#15. Otonashi and Kanade (Angel Beats)
To be fair, I never said they were all happy. It was great to see Otonashi and Kanade share their feelings with one another, and Otonashi asking Kanade to stay by his side in limbo is one of the most touching scenes in the entire series. What follows is even more heartbreaking as a result, especially if you happen to watch the extra epilogue.
#16. Sena and Kodaka (Haganai Next)
Asking someone to marry you while playing a pornographic visual novel is just ballsy. And Kodaka still pretended he couldn't hear? Come on now
#17. Ruka and Hayate (Hayate the Combat Butler)
It was a couple hundred chapters before any girl really confessed to Hayate, and this girl is one of the earlier ones in his constantly swelling harem. His answer to her confession?
"I'm only interested in 2D."
She even coughed up blood and passed out after giving him a kiss! A little harsh, isn't it?
#18. Jirou and Naoko (The Wind Rises)
Miyazaki has a way with making magic from the mundane, and The Wind Rises was no exception. Jirou and Naoko's reunion, coupled with the realization of their feelings for each other, makes for one of the sweetest moments in the entire film.
#19. Yuno and Yuki (Future Diary)
When it comes to Yuno expressing her feelings, this is all you need:
#20. Chiaki and Makoto (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time)
Last but not least is Chiaki trying to reach Makoto! And trying, and trying, then trying some more. Poor soul, every time he told her his feelings, she went back in time to try and circumvent the whole situation! Despite this, however, he eventually gets her to listen, as well as confront and acknowledge her own feelings for him. The perfect confession to make your heart doki doki.
