The only reason directors insist on putting the phrase "based on a true story" at the beginning of horror movies is because the more realistic we think the events are, the more terrifying they become. This correlation has been proven time and time again, and after reading this article, I think directors should start making comedies out of terrifying real-life stories, because they are almost too insane to believe, but not too polarizing to laugh at.
