Hundreds of animal rights activists performed a human slaughtering in central Paris on Saturday, to shed light on the vicious conditions in animal slaughter houses.

The activists had themselves painted in red colour to depict human blood before piling up on the square with stiff facial expressions, mimicking a heap of corpses.

Some activists went even further and hung themselves upside-down from a scaffold, erratically twitching and shaking to depict a fit which is triggered by electric shocks in an actual slaughtering, when the animal is being killed.

The event was organised and hosted by pro-vegan organisation 269 Life. A statement on their website reads:
"We aim to bring the pain and horror other animals face each and every day out of the suppressed darkness and into the realm of everyday life. Most people are well aware of what is being done to other animals, and yet remain apathetic in the face of the atrocities committed in their name, even after witnessing the utmost graphic evidence."
The sad reality is that more than 3,000 animals die every second in slaughterhouses around the world. These shocking figures do not even include fish and other sea creatures whose deaths are so great they are only measured in tonnes.
