A student named Jimmy Amisial has recently taken a brave and heartwarming step by adopting a baby that he found covered in ants in the trash. Texas college student was on his vacation in Haiti when he found the distressed baby.

The 27-year-old scooped up the little child and took it to his mom's home in Haiti which he was visiting during his break from Texas State University. Jimmy's mom, Elicie Jean is a 66-year-old woman who washed, clothed, and fed the child before her son took him for medical help.

The incident was reported to the police who tried to find the child's birth parent but upon their unsuccessful attempts to trace the baby's parents, a judge asked Amisial to become legal guardian to the baby.

Amisial decided to call the baby by the beautiful name 'Emilio Angel Jeremiah'.

Even during his teen years, Jimmy liked to help out at the orphanage next to his home, and it was on his trip in 2017 that he brought back presents for the children.

On his way to the orphanage, he came across a group of people gathered around a trash can. As he got to the front, Jimmy was surprised to find a four-month-old baby inside.

"No one knew how the baby ended up there, and to this day, no one knows who his birth parents are. When I woke up that day, I was totally unaware that my life was about to change forever," he shared.

"People were crowding round this bin and I heard them arguing about what to do with this tiny baby. "Everyone was just staring at him - not a single soul wanted to help. He was crying and had no clothes on and I could see the pain in his eyes - I had to do something."

As the police could not find the baby's birth parents, a judge asked Jimmy who was then 22, if he would become legal guardian to the baby.

"When I was asked to raise him, I stayed awake for days tossing and turning, trying to make a decision. I was already behind on my university fees and my family has always struggled to make ends meet," Amisial said.

"But I didn't have a dad growing up, and this poor child was facing a lifetime of instability and uncertainty. Something inside was telling me that this had happened for a reason - so I took a leap of faith. Sometimes you don't have to know what to do, you just have to be ready, to do it."

To take care of his new baby, Jimmy has been managing his time between the States and Gonaives, Haiti, where Emilio is being cared for by Elicie.

The kind-hearted man has now applied to adopt Emilio officially so that he can become his dad in documents as well.

"When I found him, he was four months old - now he's nearly five," he said.

"It's been an incredible journey and watching him grow up has been so rewarding - I'm very proud of him. I had to do what I had to do when no one else wanted to do it, and I'm so grateful for the past four and a half years," Jimmy told the media.

"I truly do feel like a father, and I'm excited to put pen to paper and make Emilio my son - I just need to raise the money first. I'm glad I got the opportunity to transform his life from being abandoned in the trash to being a wonderful treasure."

Jimmy had to take time off from his university to take care of Emilio, however, he is now ready to resume his studies and start his third year in September.

To gain legal adoption rights, Jimmy now needs to raise $30,000.

"It's been fun seeing him grow - he's a joy to be around. Mom loves him, the kids in the orphanage love him, and I love him as if he were my own. He really is a special little boy," he said.
