A 3D model of a submersible intended for real estate tycoon Larry Connor's potential journey to the Titanic wreck has been unveiled.

This announcement comes after the tragic loss of five individuals in July 2023 aboard the Titan submersible.

Following this incident, another billionaire, Larry Connor, who is worth $2 billion, expressed his desire to launch his own expedition to the wreck site.

The previous expedition ended in disaster when the submersible imploded, claiming the lives of OceanGate founder Stockton Rush, Shahzada and Suleman Dawood (a father and son), UK billionaire Hamish Harding, and former French navy commander Paul-Henri Nargeolet.

Despite the recent catastrophe, Larry Connor appears to be determined to proceed.

He reached out to a submersible company mere days after the tragedy, requesting they design a new sub to demonstrate that the Titan disaster was an isolated event.

Connor shared with the Wall Street Journal: "I want to show people worldwide that while the ocean is extremely powerful, it can be wonderful and enjoyable and really kind of life-changing if you go about it the right way."

The safety of the OceanGate submersible had already been under intense scrutiny, with employees voicing concerns over its design.

Criticisms were particularly pointed at the shape of the craft, which was cylindrical.

In contrast, the watertight cabin of a submersible is typically spherical, a shape known for its strength.

After the release of a 3D model of the sub that might be used in Connor's expedition, many are curious about the opinion of James Cameron, the Titanic director and wreck visitor, on this new design.

Cameron himself had successfully completed a dive to the site in a submersible built with a robust metal sphere, designed for extreme depths, unlike the Titan's carbon fiber construction which had smaller viewing ports.

At the time, Cameron expressed his concerns about the OceanGate design, stating: "Many people in the community were very concerned about this sub.

"A number of the top players in the deep submergence engineering community even wrote letters to the company, saying that what they were doing was too experimental to carry passengers and that it needed to be certified and so on."

He further added: "Warnings went unheeded to take place at the same exact site with all the diving that's going on all around the world, I think it's just astonishing.

"It's really quite surreal."

The new sub diverges from the conventional metal spheres and features a clear one instead.

However, it has been engineered to reach the Titanic's resting place, 12,500 feet below the surface.

On Reddit, the conversation about the new submersible has been lively.

One user quipped: "Looks like it makes banger coffee."

Others debated the fascination with the Titanic wreck, with one remarking: "Why do people wanna go there so much? It's a place of so many dead people, gives me the creeps."

Another commenter expressed frustration, saying: "Don't billionaires have anything better to do with their money?"
