By and large, most kids are cute. For kids who are on screen, it is a necessity. You don’t see many ugly ducklings in show business; in fact, it is usually the other way around. Here are 15 child actors who went from cute to mute.
#1 DANIEL RADCLIFFE
Let's be honest, Harry Potter made this kid, and made him enough money to never have to work again. To his credit, he truly loves the craft of acting, and has put out some excellent work as an adult actor, enough to distance himself from that whimsical role. However, he isn't the cute little wizard we all remember.
#2 JEREMY MILLER
The little brother, Ben, from the eighties hit TV show Growing Pains, Miller's case is a bit of a mystery. Wasn't a bad looking kid, seemed to have the chops, but he certainly did not have the success on screen like Leonardo DiCaprio or the success with God that Kirk Cameron seems to be enjoying.
#3 MACAULAY CULKIN
Ah, Home Alonegreat movie, truly. Best part about that movie? Macaulay Culkin, for sure. Cute kid, but on-set parent issues and instant stardom led him in the wrong direction. Hanging out with Michael Jackson probably did not help much, either. Run-ins with the law for drug possession and family problems stole his innocent looks.
#4 CLINT HOWARD
Best known as Leon from The Andy Griffith Show-back when that show was on the air-these days his celebrity revolves around successful director-and brother, Ron Howard. The cuteness wore off quick, but he certainly is talented, and has played character roles quite often due to the looks that have come with age. That said, it really helps when Ron Howard is your brother.
#5 AUSTIN ST. JOHN
You wouldn't know it, because as the Red Ranger from the Power Rangers, his face was typically obscured by a mask, but St. John was a cute kid. After leaving the show after only one season, he became a firefighter as well as an EMT. As for his former Power Ranger skills, he has a black belt in judo and is featured in martial arts books.
#6 RAVEN SYMONE
She was adorable on the Cosby Show, and even after Disney did its best to ruin her life with That's So Raven, a painfully adequate "children's" show that spent way too long being renewed and now in syndication, she has grown up, come out of the closet, claims to be ambiguous in every way, and hasn't done much else.
#7 JASON HERVEY
As Wayne on The Wonder Years, he played Kevin's (Fred Savage) goofy, immature, and sometimes cruel older brother. It's up for debate as to whether or not he was cute then, but these days he is anything but. Since his time on The Wonder Years he has worked in public relations as well as production behind the scenes.
#8 DANNY BONADUCE
He's a mess, but you gotta love him. He was the cute little brother who played the bass on the television hit The Partridge Family. Things went pear-shaped after that, with bad PR over drug addictions, violent outbursts, failed relationships, and the inability to hold a job on a consistent basis. Even still, these days he makes for great television.
#9 MAYIM BIALIK
Everyone remembers NBC's hit sitcom Blossom, with Bialik playing the role of Blossom, a goofy teen with typically light-hearted problems. Never a true beauty; her charm made the show worth watching. Nowadays she is married, highly educated, and has a great role on the CBS mega-hit sitcom The Big Bang Theory.
