When it comes time for your parents to meet the person you've been crushing on for the first time, things can get pretty awkward. You'd think that, since your parents probably had embarrassing parents at one point in their lives, they'd know what not to say in front of your crush. Here are all the worst things your parents could say to your crush before a date.
9 Worst Things Your Parents Could Say To Your Crush
#1 "You're late!"
So your date was supposed to get to your house at 7:00 p.m. to pick you up, and yes, you kind of started freaking out when they didn't show at 7:03 p.m., but once they showed up at 7:15 p.m., all was forgiven. They probably just got lost or something. And your mom and dad making them feel all awkward and insecure about showing up late is definitely NOT going to do wonders for your date.
#2 "Your boyfriend/girlfriend's here!"
Even though you would absolutely love for your date to be your boyfriend/girlfriend, you definitely haven't reached that level yet. And your mom yelling that up at you from the bottom of the stairs is the most cringe-inducing thing ever. And if you're cringing, you can only imagine how awkward your date feels.
#3 "So, how did you and my daughter meet?"
You don't even know if you'll be together in a week, and you are like, "can they just put the third degree on hold for a few weeks until you know the awkward experience will be worth it?"
#4 "There won't be any drinking going on tonight, right?"
You and your crush are literally going to the movies to see the new movie. And no, that's not a euphemism for going out and partying. No. You're actually going to sit and watch that movie because you actually really want to see it. So there won't be any drinking dad. Chill.
#5 "Aren't you a cutie?"
They are going to start making your crushes wear paper bags over their heads when they come over to avoid this horrendously awkward situation.
#6 "He/she could see herself marrying you."
You told your mom that in confidence and you were not even that much serious. Bae was neeeeeeeever supposed to know and now they think you're a psycho who wants to marry them after only two weeks of dating.
#7 "Has he/she told you about that one time..."
They're, no doubt, getting ready to tell your date about that time you peed yourself while riding the Tower of Terror at Disney World when you were eight. They think the story is hilarious. But it's not funny. It's just embarrassing.
#8 "You remind me of myself when I was a teenager."
So your bae reminds your mom and dad of themselves? Which means you're dating your parent?
#9 "Don't do anything I wouldn't do."
You don't even want to think about your mom and dad ~doing~ anything, okay?
