Losing a pet can be hard for anyone, but it’s especially tough for children. For them, it means losing a real best friend. It can be very difficult to deal with, but this little boy decided he would write his dog a letter to help him get over his pain. He got a reply that is going to make you cry.
A Little Boy Wrote A Letter To His Pet In 'Doggie Heaven' And Got A Response!
#1 Moe Came Into Their Lives 9 Years Before Their Son And Made Things More Comfortable, And Smelly
When Virginia parents Mary and Roberto Westbrook lost their 13-year-old beagle, Moe, in April, their 3½-year-old son, Luke, kept crying and asking what happened to him. Not sure exactly how to explain the situation to the toddler, they simply said that Moe had gone up to 'doggie heaven' and was in a happy place.
#2 Little Luke Missed His Best Friend More Than Anything
After Luke continued to show his sadness over the loss of the one true friends he had since birth, Mary came up with a plan to write Moe letters in Heaven. She and Luke would sit down every night and he would tell her what to say and she would write it for him. They always addressed the letters to 'Moe, Doggy Heaven, 1st Cloud.'
#3 Luke Would Come Up With Different Messages For Moe Every Night
The notes would say things like, "I miss you. Hope you're having fun in doggie heaven," Mary told local reporters. "Then, because you can't fool a three-year-old, we take the letter to our mailbox," she added. "He would wait for the time of the evening when we would sit down together and write the letters to Moe and couldn't wait to walk down to the mailbox with it."
#4 After Luke Went To Bed Each Night, Mary Would Walk Out To The Mailbox And Take Out The Letter
Making sure Luke was fast asleep, she would sneak out and get the letter then throw it away. However, one night she forgot to retrieve the letter and in the morning it was gone. She just assumed the post office would throw it away or put it in a special folder like they do when children write to Santa Claus.
#5 On The Next Morning Mary And Luke Found A Surprise In Their Mailbox When They Went To The End Of The Driveway To Retrieve The Mail
A handwritten letter addressed to Luke from Moe. "I'm in Doggie Heaven. I play all day. I am happy. Thank you 4 being my friend. I wuv you Luke," read the note, written on USPS paper.
#6 Little Luke Was Excited And Happy To Hear From Moe
He seemed thrilled to finally get a reply to his letters, but not surprised, while his parents quietly praised a mysterious author for their kindness. The letter was written in almost childlike printing and was sweet and simple. They had no idea who could have written it and left it in their mailbox.
#7 A Virgina Newspaper Tracked Down The Notes Author
It turns out the letter was written by a postal worker who wrote the sweet letter to Luke, a 25-year window clerk named Zina Owens. She said, "I felt it in my heart, here was a child who had lost his dog, and anytime you love something and it goes away, it hurts. The letter's innocence "made my day," she said, "so I wanted to make his. It's just love. Plain and simple."
The Westbrook family will remember Moe and the special note for many years to come.
