Little did Royal know, compassionate humans were about to enter her life and transform it in ways beyond her imagination.
The team at I Stand With My Pack, a non-profit organization in California, discovered the small, trembling pup.
Her body and head were covered in mange, a sight that deeply moved the rescuers.
They rescued her, naming her Royal, and promptly took her to a vet for treatment.
After receiving necessary medical care, Royal was ready to embark on her recovery journey in a loving foster home.
Courtney, an experienced foster parent, welcomed Royal into her home, determined to nurse the frail and skinny pup back to health.
The first thing she did was give Royal a comforting bath.
Royal quickly bonded with her foster mom, possibly experiencing human affection for the first time.
She relished Courtney's gentle cuddles.
With Courtney's constant love and encouragement, Royal gradually began to relax and eat.
She loved snuggling in bed with Courtney, showering her with affectionate kisses.
Courtney was touched to see Royal's first steps in her home and the wag of her little tail.
"It was a crazy, crazy journey just to see her slowly come back to life. Two months to get her to a place where she was walking. It was another two months until she started to slowly regrow fur," Courtney shared with The Dodo.
During her recovery, Royal found another supportive friend in Courtney's dog, Shakes.
"My dog, Shakes, would teach her how to wrestle and play with squeaky toys and play with the ball, and you could see her learning and educating herself through another dog. It made her healthier and stronger," Courtney reflected.
Royal and Shakes became best friends, enjoying beach trips and playful zoomies.
At home, they loved cuddling together. Royal's eyes began to sparkle with happiness, and she started hopping joyfully in the grass.
Over time, Courtney realized that Royal had captured her heart and had become an inseparable part of their family.
She decided to adopt Royal, now renamed Chicken and was delighted to watch her transform into a completely different dog.
Courtney adored Chicken's vibrant energy and personality. Chicken had an endearing habit of rubbing her eyes every morning and night.
Courtney felt fortunate to have Chicken in her life, calling her "the most unexpectedly perfect addition to our lives."
Chicken even has her own Instagram account where she updates followers about her dream life in California.
She revels in the love she now receives and enjoys helping Courtney by babysitting her foster siblings.
Thanks to the heroes at I Stand With My Pack and Courtney's endless love and dedication, Chicken has become a joyful and healthy pup who cherishes her life.
We're ecstatic for Chicken and look forward to her many future adventures with her loving family.
