Sophie Tabatadze, who lives in Georgia, USA, posted a notice from "Vake Swimming Pool And Fitness Club" which left her fuming and angry. The club said on its notice board, "Dear Ladies! Do not go in the pool during periods."

Clearly Tabatadze wasn't happy about it and expressed her annoyance on this discrimination on Facebook. She wrote, "Vake Swimming Pool And Fitness Club, do you even realize how offensive this is? And, by the way, since according to your rules we are not allowed to use a swimming pool 5-6 days each month, do we get a preferential price compared with men? ‪#‎mysogyny‬ ‪#‎mysogynyinaction‬"

The Vake Swimming Pool And Fitness Club came to its defense and talked to Buzzfeed to explain their side of the story. The representative from the club said, "We have had some incidents about this where, I'm sorry that I have to mention, I have found tampons on the surface of the pool it's for [the benefit of] the ladies themselves and for the others who are swimming."

#5 The Opinions That Pour In

The people seemed divided on Tabatadze's post and shared their opinion. It is important to remember here that swimming during periods is fine. Women can swim during menses as long as they use tampons. It is ridiculous to even think that women cannot swim during menstruation.

Tamuna Papava is being sarcastic in a comment on the above post, though she has a valid point. She wrote, "Oh, I have another awesome idea for you! Women should not be allowed to compete in the olympics! Contrary to what you believe, they could menstruate unexpectedly. #8 Happy That A Conversation Has Started

Maka Meshveliani is happy that at least the conversation is happening. She said in a comment on the above post, "the post, and the follow up has stirred some of the most open discussions about periods around me. While the changes do not happen overnight, I do believe open conversations about the discriminatory practices in our micro social settings help us get closer to the desirable change, whatever it may be. Anyhow, the visibility matters a lot!"
