In an outrageous verdict, a woman who cruelly tried to murder her own dog was only given an £80 fine and will not be serving jail time.
Trigger Warning: Animal Abuse
In an extremely upsetting story, a woman by the name of Charlene Latham, 32, was facing charges for causing unnecessary suffering to an animal at the Nottingham Magistrates' Court. She plead guilty to all charges.
Other than an £80 fine, Charlene was also ordered to pay court costs of £200 along with a £32 victim surcharge. She may also not keep pets or dogs for at least three years.
The woman however has not been giving jail time for her actions
As the horrific images on the left indicate, Charlene attempted to drown her 11-year-old Belgian Shephard.
A passerby noticed the dog in distress and leapt into the water to save her from drowning.
According to the vet, Jane Harper had reached the pup in record time. Any later would have meant its demise.
The authorities recovered the large rock that had been used to keep the pup down. They were also able to trace the original owner through a microchip.
The woman charged claimed that she was under pressure from her partner to cause Bella the pup harm. At one point she said that it was in fact her partner who had attempted to put her down. No official charges were brought against her partner. The police later released a statement on her behaviour.
"The prosecution would say, even on the basis of plea, this is someone who actually left the dog in the river and did not seek any attempt to get it help and then lied when police came round the next morning."
Bella has now made a full recovery and is looking to be rehomed.
The vets in charge of caring for her have released the following,
"At times we thought she just wouldn't make it, with her age and underlying health conditions all against her."
"But Bella has fought every day, showing enviable strength and courage, not wanting to give up her fight to recover."
"We hope that she will now be able to live out the rest of her life with the love and respect that she has always deserved and are looking for that special forever home for Bella."
