Sandler said the claims going around were completely 'insane'
Adam Sandler has pushed back against a viral TikTok video about him and his daughter, Sadie, making it clear that “not a word of it is true.” He addressed the rumor directly and left no room for confusion about where he stands.
Sandler, 59, spoke with PEOPLE at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival earlier this week. During the conversation, he chose to bring up something he had recently seen circulating online.
He referred to it as a “dumb thing” and explained that a viral video had been spreading across social media platforms. He made it clear that the story being shared in the clip is simply “not real.”
Sandler explained: "By the way, there's something on the internet talking about that dumb thing."
"I've been hearing about this thing and I saw it, and it's just insane."
He appeared to be referring to a TikTok video that claims he told a story about a retail worker in Beverly Hills. In the clip, the worker allegedly told Sadie that she “wasn't allowed to touch” certain items inside the store.
According to the viral clip, Sandler responded to the employee’s behavior by purchasing $312,000 worth of handbags from the store. The story quickly gained attention online because of the large amount of money involved and the dramatic nature of the claim.
"It's just this made-up, weird thing that people ask me about," Sandler said. "And I'm just like, 'I've never heard of this in my life.' That story was 100 percent insane and made-up, and not a word of it is true."
"That was one of the weirdest, dumbest, 100% made up things. It was very odd."
"I don't know how that happens."
While he dismissed that rumor, Sandler did admit that one widely shared story about him is actually true. He acknowledged that not everything written or posted about him is false.
Talking about a New York Post report that said he ordered “a bunch of Double-Doubles” at In-N-Out Burger late one night, he said: "I have to say, that story is true."
"So that one's true. The other one's pathetic."
At the time, Sandler was seen wearing casual clothes, including shorts and a hoodie, while placing his order. His low-key outfit caught the attention of other customers, and several people did double takes after realizing who he was.
He made these comments while attending the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, where he was honored with the Maltin Modern Master Award. The award recognizes individuals who have made a lasting impact on the film industry.
The appearance came shortly after news broke that Happy Gilmore 2 became the most-watched live-action movie of 2025, reaching a total of 7.1 billion minutes streamed. The strong streaming numbers added another milestone to his long career.
Sandler, 59, is the father of two daughters, Sadie, 19, and Sunny, 17. He shares both children with his wife, Jackie Sandler.
Earlier in January, Sandler also opened up about how different his life might have been if he had not pursued acting. He said he once considered taking his father’s offer to work with him as an electrical engineer instead.
"I sometimes think about it, [if] I didn't click that year and I did go work for my dad, what my life would be right now," he said at the Palm Springs International Film Festival.
"First off, I'm thinking I'd probably still be married to my wife, Jackie. That's destiny. Nothing stops that."
"But we definitely [would] have a different house. Probably, like, 10 less bathrooms and [fewer] statues of me."
