An image of two doctors lying on the floor of the operating room has made its way around the world. But it's the backstory that has people so shocked. Three surgeons in the southern Chinese province, Fuijan, had just finished a record-breaking 32-hour surgery. From Saturday morning at 8:30 am local time until Sunday evening at sunset, the doctors worked on the patient.

According to one of the surgeons, Dr. Chen Jianping: "The patient had both an aneurysm and a tumor on the brain stem. We removed both in the operation. For this, six different interventions needed to be performed on the patient. This can be risky and time-consuming. If you remove a tumor and the other bursts, it would have fatal consequences."

The surgeons were able to take turns having short 2-hour breaks. And after 32 hours, the marathon operation was successfully completed and the three doctors fell to the floor, completely exhausted. But for Dr. Chen Jianping, it's not a big deal. "Not only do I work hard to treat patients and save them. Many surgeons would do the same thing, but they are not seen."

Thankfully this picture shows a little glimpse into the hard work and sacrifice that surgeons put into their jobs!
