Amber Heard Is Now Going By A Different Name After Leaving The US And Moving To A Different Country

Amber Heard appears to be starting over and building a new life for herself after her contentious legal disputes with her former husband, Johnny Depp.

The couple got married in 2015, but just a year later, the "Aquaman" actress initiated a divorce.

They released a joint statement when they settled their divorce in 2016, which seemed to show they were presenting a united front.

However, their relationship deteriorated after Heard published an op-ed in The Washington Post.

In her 2018 op-ed, Heard discussed her experiences with sexual abuse and violence.

She did not explicitly name Depp as her abuser in the article.

Nonetheless, Depp later filed a defamation lawsuit against her.

In response, Heard countersued for $100 million, accusing Depp of orchestrating a 'smear campaign' against her.

Their intense legal battle attracted international media attention, eventually leading to a jury ruling in Depp's favor.

The jury also found merit in Heard's countersuit, determining that one of Depp's attorneys had defamed her in one of the three statements that were highlighted in her lawsuit.

By the end of 2022, it was believed that all their legal battles had been resolved.

Following this, Heard moved to Spain with her daughter, Oonagh Paige.

She had her daughter via a surrogate in April 2021 and has kept the identity of the father private.

In her efforts to start anew in Spain, Heard reportedly adopted a new identity.

Last year, she was said to have assumed the name Martha Jane Cannary, the real name of the famous old-West American sharpshooter, Calamity Jane.

According to a report by El Diario de Mallorca: 

"The choice of this identity, which appears at the entrance of her new Mallorcan home, draws much attention, especially as Johnny Depp always maintained that his family trace their roots to ancient Native American tribes and that his great-great-grandmother was Cherokee."

Whether Heard continues to use this name is still uncertain.

Heard is now believed to be residing in Madrid, dedicating her time to her daughter, Oonagh Paige. 

A source informed PEOPLE in 2022: "She is focused on raising her daughter.

"She spends every day with her girl. They stroll around, visit parks, and enjoy family time. Amber is a great mom."

Heard has mastered Spanish and surprised her fans last year when she participated in her first Spanish-language interview. 

During the brief interview, the 38-year-old expressed her affection for Spain and her intentions to remain there.
