According to Amber Heard's representative, her client's role in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was reduced due to a supposed lack of chemistry between her and Jason Momoa. When Jessica Kovacevic, the 36-year-old Pineapple Express star's talent agent, testified in court, she made it obvious that she did not think this to be true.
Amber Heard's Agent Was Told 'Lack of Chemistry' With Jason Momoa Caused Reduced Aquaman 2 Role
The WME representative believes Heard's involvement in the upcoming movie was reduced due to the negative coverage she received after her allegations against Johnny Depp became public.
Even though Depp was not named in the piece, his lawyers argue that it implies he was physically abusive to his former wife.
Heard was cast in Justice League in 2017 and then played Mera in the first Aquaman film the following year. In a virtual testimony, Kovacevic told jurors that Heard was also set to get $2 million in the following installment.
The Rum Diary actor has completed filming on the picture, which will hit theaters in March 2023.
According to People, Heard's agent told the court that Warner Bros.' explanation for reducing Heard's involvement in Aquaman 2 was "the lack of chemistry between her and Jason."
When Heard got a hold of the script, WME discovered that her role as Mera had been reduced, according to the agent.
When asked about Heard's success after the first Aquaman film, Kovacevic said she didn't think her career took off as Momoa's did.
Kovacevic said: "In my experience ... Your career takes a turn after something like that. She was very well received in the movie at the time, everyone was happy with her at the time, and there were no issues. Then to have a complete downturn after that, and then have that coincide with constant tweets and negativity put out about her, I don't have a physical piece of paper of evidence, but it's the only logical conclusion I draw."
In her testimony, Heard stated that "communications" about the movie "stopped at that point."
“I was given a script and then given new versions of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in it, that depicted my character and another character, without giving any spoilers away, two characters fighting with one another, and they took a bunch out of my role,” she told the Fairfax, Virginia, courtroom. “They just removed a bunch out.”
During her controversial defamation trial with ex-husband Johnny Depp, fans have petitioned Warner Bros. for months to remove Heard from the superhero film sequel.
The agent addressed "online rumors" that Warner Bros. wanted to replace Heard in her pre-recorded deposition, as well as her belief that the studio wanted her out as Princess Mera due to the negative publicity surrounding the contentious court case.
