Archaeologists in Israel have uncovered what they’re calling a truly 'groundbreaking' discovery, dating back nearly 2,000 years to the time when Jesus lived.

The Bible records many of Jesus’ miracles and teachings, with Christians often traveling from all over the world to visit places tied to these stories.

From Nazareth, where he was raised, to Jerusalem, believers have flocked to holy sites for centuries. Still, there are places mentioned in scripture that remain mysteries, and researchers are still working to identify them.

One example is the Pool of Siloam, where Jesus is said to have performed a miracle by healing a man who had been blind since birth.

According to the Gospel of John, Jesus mixed mud, placed it on the man’s eyes, and told him to wash in the waters of the Pool of Siloam. After doing so, the man was miraculously able to see.

For archaeologists and historians, pinpointing the exact location of such events has always been an important way to connect faith and history.

The Pool of Siloam site was recently reopened to the public after years of careful excavation and was added to a new archaeological route in 2023 and 2024, giving visitors a chance to experience the setting firsthand.

Now, researchers have revealed yet another extraordinary find connected to Jesus — a synagogue where he is believed to have performed one of his miracles.

The New Testament describes Jesus teaching and healing the sick in a synagogue located in Chorazin, an ancient city in Israel also spelled Korazim in some texts.

This synagogue, which still stands today, can be found inside Korazim National Park. Though the structure itself dates back to around 380 AD, it wasn’t brought to light until the early 1900s.

Since then, teams of archaeologists have studied the site, and in recent years, Achia Cohen-Tavor and his team made an incredible discovery hidden beneath the stone floor.

As they removed layers of stone and debris, they uncovered pottery, coins, and everyday cookware wedged between the rocks, offering fresh insight into life in the area centuries ago.

It’s believed this particular breakthrough happened in 2020, but only now are the findings being widely shared.

"This is a groundbreaking discovery," Cohen-Tavor remarked when speaking about the discovery. "I have been excavating all over, and for me, it's definitely one of the most important excavations I've ever directed."

YouTubers known as Sergio & Rhoda in Israel later visited the site themselves, filming their conversation with Cohen-Tavor and showcasing the artifacts to their audience.

Discussing the excavation process, Cohen-Tavor explained: "I can't date the rock itself [and] when it was put here. What I can date is pottery and hopefully coins coming from between the rocks."

The video also captures him holding pieces of pottery, which he said could be traced back to the first century, a time that overlaps with Jesus’ life and ministry.
