Angelina Jolie Shocked World By Kissing Her Brother At Oscars And Declaring Love For Him

The Oscars have seen several controversial moments, but one that stands out is when Angelina Jolie and her brother made a daring proclamation of their affection on the red carpet.

This occurred at the 2000 Academy Awards, where Jolie, then 24, received an Oscar for her role in "Girl, Interrupted."

During her acceptance speech for the Best Supporting Actress award, Jolie acknowledged her 26-year-old brother, James Haven, who had joined her at the event.

In a fluster, Jolie said: "I’m in shock, and I’m so in love with my brother right now.”

"He just held me and said he loved me, and I know he’s so happy for me. And, um, thank you for that."

The siblings strengthened their bond in public, directly in front of the media.

Jolie turned to kiss Haven on the lips as she posed with her golden statue, forever sealing their position in tabloid history.

The kiss made news all over the world and continued to come up in interviews for years.

A few months later, when questioned about the kiss, Jolie insisted that it was simply "brotherly" love.

Entertainment Weekly cited Jolie as saying: "My parents really loved that moment, and that’s what will always matter."

Inquiries about the background of the iconic kiss with Haven have also been raised.

In a 2007 interview with the Daily Mail, he stated: "I did not give Angie a French kiss. It was something simple and lovely. She was about to go off to Mexico to finish filming Original Sin with Antonio Banderas.”

"I congratulated her on the Oscar win and gave her a quick kiss on the lips. It was snapped and became a big thing."

The two siblings are still close, and according to reports, Haven watched over Jolie's children while she and Brad Pitt were going through their divorce.

Jolie, who is currently a Best Actress Oscar nominee, is known for her broad expressions of love.

She and Billy Bob Thornton, her second husband, started wearing vials of each other's blood around their necks when they were married.

In 2014, when talking about the unusual arrangement, Thornton insisted that it didn't seem so odd at the time.
