Ashton Kutcher 'Lucky To Be Alive' After Rare Disease Left Him Unable To See, Hear Or Walk
Ashton Kutcher recently suffered a serious medical scare that left him unable to see, walk or hear.
The actor and activist suffered from a rare illness that caused him to lose the use of his sense for some time. According to Rolling Stone, Kutcher suffered from a rare form of vasculitis.
Vasculitis is the type of disease that causes the blood vessels to thicken, reducing or cutting off the supply of blood to organs around the body which poses a serious risk to health and wellbeing.
The actor opened up about his disease during his time on Running Wild with Bear Grylls: The Challenge, where he opened up about a battle with an autoimmune disease two years ago.
The pair were hiking through the Costa Rican jungle for Kutcher's episode of the show when the actor made the revelation.
The star said he was 'lucky to be alive' after his encounter with the disease, telling Grylls how rare the disease he was struck down with was and what it did to him.
He said: "I had this weird, super rare form of vasculitis that knocked out my vision, it knocked out my hearing, it knocked out like all my equilibrium.
"It took me about a year to build it all back up. You don’t really appreciate it until it’s gone.
"Until you go, 'I don't know if I'm ever going to be able to see again, I don't know if I’m ever going to be able to hear again, I don’t know if I’m ever going to be able to walk again.'"
Running Wild with Bear Grylls takes celebrities on a 48-hour journey with Bear Grylls through difficult conditions where they have to push themselves.
There have been a whole host of famous guests on the show, including a special episode starring then-US president Barack Obama.
Apart from appearing on Running Wild with Bear Grylls, Kutcher has also been working with his wife Mila Kunis to raise money to support Ukrainian refugees.
The duo raised $35 million worth of donations to help the Ukrianainas who are fleeing their homes following the aftermath of the Russian attack.
Kutcher and Kunis received personal thanks from Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who praised them as being 'among the first to respond to our grief' in the face of Russian aggression.
