People who aren't fans of nepo babies might actually find this news refreshing.
Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis have made it clear—they don’t believe in handing their kids a fortune just because they were born into it. Kutcher has openly shared that he is not in favor of setting up trust funds for their children.
The term "nepo baby" has become increasingly popular in recent years, sparking debates about privilege and industry connections. As defined by dictionary.com, a nepo baby refers to "a notable or powerful person, such as a celebrity or politician, with a parent who is also notable or powerful, especially one whose industry connections are perceived as essential to their success".
The Hollywood couple, who tied the knot in 2015, have two children together: their daughter, Wyatt Isabel, who is now 10, and their son, Dimitri Portwood, who is 8. However, despite their wealth, Kutcher and Kunis have no plans to leave behind an inheritance for them.
As of 2024, Kutcher’s net worth stands at an impressive $200 million, while Kunis has accumulated $75 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. That puts their combined fortune at a staggering $275 million. Yet, despite their substantial earnings, the couple has been vocal about their decision not to pass this wealth down to their children.
In a 2018 interview with Dax Shepard on his podcast Armchair Expert, Kutcher made it clear that their kids, Wyatt and Dimitri, will not have "a trust set up for them."
Rather than leaving behind a hefty inheritance, Kutcher and Kunis intend to donate their wealth to charitable causes and support various initiatives they believe in.
However, Kutcher did add: "If my kids want to start a business, and they have a good business plan, I'll invest in it. But they're not getting trusts."
Although the "Punk'd" star made these comments several years ago, the discussion about celebrity offspring and inherited wealth continues to resurface. His remarks frequently come up in conversations about nepo babies, as people debate who does and doesn’t fit the label.
One X user weighed in on the topic, saying: "There was a time when families sought to build dynasties, one generation building on the accomplishments of the last."
"Now everyone is an atomic unit, valuable only in so far as it serves the consumerist machine. And your children? Do not spoil them lest they become worse workers."
Another person added their perspective, stating: "Instead, they will leave their fortune to spoiled and entitled CEOs of nonprofits."
Kunis has also spoken about her stance on inheritance in a 2017 interview with Elle UK. The Bad Moms actress made it clear that her priority is to ensure her children grow up to be kind and grounded individuals, rather than entitled.
"There's enough a**holes in this world! We don't need to contribute. But, you know, there's some nice people," she told the publication.
She also explained that one year, she made the decision to stop giving Christmas presents to their children. Kunis elaborated: "We're instituting [no presents] this year because when the kids are [younger than] one, it doesn't really matter. Last year when we celebrated Christmas, Wyatt was two, and it was too much. We didn't give her anything — it was the grandparents," she said.
