Teenage years are a hard period for most to deal with. You not only have to worry about hormones that change how you feel and think but you also suddenly begin to change physically. Pamela Ichard's experience during puberty was harsher than most and the effects were much longer lasting. After dealing with an aggressive form of rosacea for decades she finally got the help she needed.

Pamela Ichard lives in Louisiana. This is a picture of her at the age of 15. We focus on this age because this year would mark the beginning of a change she had no control over that would shape her life for the next 31 years.

As she went through her teenage years, she started developing a severe case of acne and realized that her skin was gradually degrading. “Puberty set in, acne set in — it got to be really bad. The bumps became purple and red, sometimes tissue would come out of it," she said while being featured on The Doctors.

Well into adulthood, Pamela's face would change once again with the birth of her second child. Her nose began to warp and change shape.

Once her nose began growing, it didn't stop. "From that point on, my nose continued to swell up," she told The Doctors.

At age 46 Pamela would finally get the help she so desperately needed. She was diagnosed with an aggressive type of rosacea commonly referred to as rhinophyma. The cause is unknown, but regularly, it forms after rosacea appears on your face. Pamela would explain to the doctors: “The doctor would prescribe me different types of medicine, but nothing worked.”

The skin condition drastically altered Pamela's life. "It has stopped me from leaving the house. I had anxiety for a long time. There's gotta be a cure for this, there's just gotta be. I just wanted to look normal," she pleaded on the show.

During her appearance on a 2016 episode of The Doctors, she described her harrowing experience and at times broke down crying.

Dr. Ann Zedlitz interviewed Pamela and offered to perform surgery on her nose for free. It would take both surgical and laser procedures to repair the damage and fix her shape. Pamela was overwhelmed by the news and her reaction was priceless.
