A Lexington family discovered a baby owl in their Christmas tree for four days, adding a heartwarming surprise to their holiday tradition. The unexpected guest, found during preparations by a carpet cleaner, made their festive season memorable.
Baby Owl Goes Undetected On Family's Christmas Tree For Four Days Before Cleaner Notices
After failing to notice that a baby owl had been residing in their Christmas tree for four days, a family has spoken out.
A family in Lexington, Kentucky chose to decorate their Christmas tree because they were feeling joyful.
Every year, they choose their tree together, and this year, they received far more than they had anticipated—even though the festive fir tree was what they had in mind.
Before they realized what had happened, the family had decorated and hung their tree in the living room for four days.
"I have three dogs, we use this room non-stop, watch TV, the kitchen's right here, no indication," homeowner Michelle told FOX 56 News on Tuesday (December 5).
The tiny owl was discovered by Magic Carpet & Upholstery owner Bobby Hayes as he was cleaning Michelle's rugs in preparation for the holidays.
Is it you, Hedwig? Ron, have you once more allowed the untrained Pigwidgeon to escape your sight?
Bobby described how he noticed the owl sitting on a "lower limb" of the tree while plugging in a piece of equipment.
"It crawled up into the tree further," he continued.
"And as it was in the tree further, it took me several minutes to even find it."
And the tiny baby was an owl all by himself.
Michelle was initially misled into believing the small bird was holding up a "stuffed animal" or an "ornament" when the carpet cleaner grabbed it and snapped a picture of it near the tree.
When Michelle saw that her family's Christmas tree included a real owl, she was "so stunned" and "shocked."
It's also fortunate that Bobby discovered the animal rather than Michelle, who said she would have "left the house" if she had encountered the feathered creature directly.
"The owl could've stayed without me, I wasn't coming home," she said.
What happened with the owl, though?
Bobby carried the owl outside to the backyard and let it fly freely, instead of giving Michelle the order to leave the property.
Bobby resolved: "Everybody's going to be able to have a merry Christmas now."
The Christmas owl in Lexington turned a routine tradition into a heartwarming story, reminding us that joy often resides in the unexpected.
Its brief stay became a symbol of the enchanting moments that make the holiday season truly magical.
