Bad Bunny Is Being Sued For $40 Million By His Ex-Girlfriend Over Use Of Voice
Due to the use of her voice on one of his hit tracks, Bad Bunny's ex-girlfriend is suing him for at least $40 million.
On the songs "Pa Ti" and "Dos Mis 16," the lady who can be heard breathlessly saying "Bad Bunny, baby" is Carliz De La Cruz Hernández.
De La Cruz's lawyers claim that her voice and the phrase she coined are being used without her consent in a lawsuit that was brought in a court in Puerto Rico.
According to the lawsuit, Pa Ti has received more than 355 million YouTube views and 235 million Spotify plays, while Dos Mis 16 has received more than 60 million YouTube views and 280 million Spotify streams.
According to her attorneys, De La Cruz is experiencing "overwhelm and anxious" as a result of the song's popularity.
The lawsuit states: “Since then, thousands of people have commented directly on Carliz’s social media networks, as well as every time she goes to a public place, about the ‘Bad Bunny, baby’.”
“This has caused, and currently causes, De La Cruz feels worried, anguished, intimidated, overwhelmed, and anxious.”
In 2011, Bad Bunny and De La Cruz began dating. Benito Antonio Martnez Ocasio, better known as Bad Bunny, is his actual name.
In 2015, according to the lawsuit, the performer chose the stage name Bad Bunny and requested his ex-girlfriend to record herself saying it.
According to the filing, De La Cruz was staying with a friend at the time and recorded the audio in the bathroom because it was the room's quietest location before sending it to the man.
The couple became engaged the following year, but their relationship ended that same year.
In 2017, they attempted to get back together, but it was unsuccessful and they parted ways.
However, De La Cruz claims that in May 2022, a representative of Bad Bunny got in touch with her and asked to speak with her.
The recording was allegedly presented to her for $2,000, but she turned it down.
De La Cruz claims that a representative from Rimas Entertainment also called her about purchasing the recording and informing her that it would appear on the album Un Verano Sin Ti.
De La Cruz claims that no agreement was made and that the music was used without her consent.
