Barbie With Hijab Gets Mixed Reaction From Twitter Users

The doll’s name soon became synonymous with a vapid obsession with beauty.

In recent years, the toy maker has introduced several new Barbie lines, including Fashionista Barbies, which come in in petite, tall, curvy, and original shapes.

#3 Mattel also made a Barbie of the plus-size fashion model Ashley Graham, earlier this year, Wonder Woman Barbie, designed with toned biceps.

#4 The latest Barbie from the Shero line is modeled after the American fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad.

Apart from the cultural attire, the doll itself is designed by Ibtihaj, which means the Barbie is dark-skinned, instead of porcelain.

#5 Mattel Inc. said the doll will be available online next fall.

The doll is part of the Barbie “Shero” line that honors women who break boundaries.

“Today, I’m proud to know that little girls who wear a hijab and, just as powerfully, those who don’t, can play with Barbie in a headscarf, I know that the more diverse dolls are offered, the many more inspiring stories girls will be able to tell.”

"There’s no such thing as a thigh gap on my body. I wanted it to have cellulite, but they said it would look like a mistake.”
