“She called up my workplace without speaking to me beforehand and asked for me to be their server for their entire Christmas dinner…That’s a hard pass for me.”
Woman Shares In-Laws' Shocking Plan For Her To Serve Them During Christmas Dinner
First Christmas with your in-laws is always a bit stressful. Even more so when you're the one hosting. Reddit user u/TravelnPookie thought she was going to be whipping up a hearty meal for the family but her mother-in-law had other plans.
OP said that she had been recently married and was expecting her in-laws to pop in and spend Christmas with them. Her in-laws suggested dining out but OP offered to cook for them instead.
Unbeknownst to her, her in-laws wanted her in the kitchen, just not in the one at their home.
OP said she had been working as a server at a restaurant after she had been laid off but was lucky enough to have the day off Christmas Day.
Her mother-in-law decided to call into her restaurant and tell them to keep the place open, especially for them. They also decided to ask for OP specifically to be their server for the evening.
OP found out later that her Christmas day would be spent in uniform waiting hand and foot on her in-laws. Her Christmas gift was meant to be a large tip.
If this sounds incredibly strange to you, that's because it is.
OP declined the offer because let's be honest, it did not sound like a good time.
OP was in turn told she was being dramatic and that their offer was not weird.
OP shared in an update that she got on a call with her in-laws and told them that their behavior was not acceptable.
She made sure to put her foot down at the right time and was appreciative of all the support she received.
She further added that her mother-in-law had been upset by OP's reaction. Luckily, her husband had her back through the whole ordeal.
Commenters were baffled by the thought process that brought the in-laws to their decision.
One commenter asked if OP was a different race than them and whether there was an economic difference between them. OP revealed that her in-laws were millionaires.
Commenters affirmed to OP that her in-laws were being disrespectful and unreasonable.
