C.S. Lewis died on November 22, 1963, but his wisdom and writing will likely live on forever. The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe is, for many, the first and best chapter book they’ve ever read.
Born Clive Staples Lewis November 29th in 1898, C.S. Lewis became a great scholar, thinker, writer, and Christian apologist. He was known to his friends — including J.R.R. Tolkien — as Jack. Tolkien and Lewis were part of a group of Oxford faculty chums who called themselves The Inklings. They met in pubs to talk about fantasy, fiction, and religion. C.S. Lewis shaped and influenced what we now call Young Adult fiction, infusing his fanciful stories with depth and meaning. He is famous for his Chronicles of Narnia, but Lewis also wrote poems, essays, and longer works of non-fiction. Much of his writing chronicles his own journey from unbelief to belief.
His writing has inspired these beautiful prints.
