Cincinnati Zoo
Explained by Thane Maynard, Zoo President, "The boy crawled through a barrier Saturday, fell 10 to 12 feet and was grabbed by the zoo's 17-year-old male western lowland gorilla, Harambe."
Harambe & the boy
The boy didn't appear to be in any danger from the gorilla. During a moment, the boy looked up at Harambe and they touched hands.
Harambe stands the boy up
After helping the boy stand Harambe grabs the boy and whisks him through the water. Although still at this point appears to be in no direct harm from the gorilla - any number of things could have happened like possibly accidentally drowning.
Harambe just turned 17 the day before
Harambe is a 17 year old 400lb Silverback gorilla. Not known if it was the crowd of people leaning over the exhibit screaming that caused Harambe to take the child out of of view or not but rescuers ended up having to shoot the gorilla in order to free the boy.
Horrifying video
This taken just moments after the boy who not long before this asked his mom if he could go in to the water - to which she told him no, then he slipped away from his mother and the other kids she was watching and and crawled through the barrier, falling in to the enclosure. The boy was taken to the hospital with unnamed serious injuries but is expected to make a full recovery.
Animal lovers are upset
Animal lovers are saying that Harambe was just trying to protect the boy and call his shooting senseless. Blaming incidents like this on parents for not being able to "contain" their children. If the child would have been killed and zoo officals didn't make the decision they did, then people would be up in arms about that.....so its a no win situation. What do you think?
