According to Andrea’s father, the attack was prompted by the unwillingness of the newborn’s father to be a parent.

"He didn't want that. And once a baby is conceived it's too late for all that. You either step up and be a dad or you walk away."

Grinage Sr. told ABC7

"You never think it will happen to your loved ones - let alone your daughter. Andrea was not only burned over 90% of her body but also lost everything in the fire."

Prince George's County police spokeswoman Jennifer Donelan said:

"She was very brave. We want her family to know how brave she was, suffering as badly as she was — critically burned, worried about her unborn child, dealing with those injuries and was able to share that information with us so that we could get moving with our investigation and locate this person."
