15 men helped a woman escape her father’s abusive household. A decade later, she decides to honour them on her wedding day by asking them to walk her down the aisle.
Bride Asked 15 Men Who Helped Her Escape Father’s Abuse To Walk Her Down The Aisle
Traditionally, when you walk down the aisle, you envision walking arm in arm with your father. For some, however, reality does not quite align with tradition.
For some, their father wasn’t the safe haven that the title promises but rather the opposite.
When Ivy Jurgensen, 28, was getting married, she decided that the best way to carry this tradition forward would be to honor the men in her life who lived up to the title.
Jurgensen how her father had turned abuser and was convicted of child molestation and rape of a child. Her father had been convicted a decade ago and was sent to prison.
Over the years, Jurgensen decided to focus on those who had helped her on her journey as she got away from her terrible situation.
She had first confided in a school officer of the abuse she experienced. She was so comforted and inspired by his presence that she decided to pursue a career in the police herself.
She also added that she also had the support of others such as her brother, uncle, sports coaches, and brother-in-law.
So when the time came to walk down the aisle, she called up all 15 of the men in her life who had an impact. The touching moment was captured in a video that was posted on her Instagram where she chronicles her journey of escaping abuse and recovering from trauma.
Her post caption stated that she felt vulnerable sharing her story onto a public platform but felt that it was necessary to let others in similar situations know that they are not alone.
She also added in an interview,
"I hope that what people take away from my story is strength. That they are able to gain courage to get and receive help that they deserve and to no longer be voiceless. You are not alone and deserve to be heard and get justice. Saving yourself could be saving other unknown victims."
