Bride wonders whether she is in the wrong for not letting her sister wear very revealing dress and uninviting her when she wouldn't budge.
Bride's Sister Demands To Wear Revealing Dress To Wedding. Throws Tantrum When Uninvited.
What the bride says goes. That is the cardinal rule of being a bridesmaid. This goes doubly so if the bride is your very own sister.
OP however was the most patient bride on the planet until she finally decided to put her foot down when her sister refused to cover up just a little for the wedding.
OP said that she and her sister had been raised in a liberal household with a more open-minded stance towards clothing.
While this is completely fine on a normal day, OP started to get a little worried when she found out what her sister was considering as her outfit.
The dress in question was not only backless with a deep neckline, it also had a slit all the way up on both sides. OP's sister was also opting out of wearing undergarments so there was a significant threat of flashing guests.
OP was especially uncomfortable considering her husband's family would be there. When OP spoke to her parents, they said that the outfit was okay.
OP put her foot down and decided that if her sister could not dress modestly, then she would not be part of the wedding.
OP's sister said that was unfair and that OP had no right to control what she wore. OP said that she had let all bridesmaids choose what they were going to wear as long as they stuck to the theme.
While her sister had respected the color theme, the dress itself was far off from traditional wedding dress codes.
When OP decided to disinvite her sister, her parents also stopped speaking to her.
OP then shared a picture of the dress which left commenters baffled.
Another commenter also shared the picture shown above. OP replied that the dress in the picture was similar but the problem was that when her sister moved, she would be flashing her bits.
Commenters said that dress codes exist everywhere and that hosts have the liberty to enforce those codes at events.
Most said that the dress was not appropriate at all and could not even be worn in public.
Most understood OP's point and said that she wasn't being unreasonable.
Some also pointed out that the problem was not just how revealing the dress was, but also how it would take attention away from the bride.
Suffice it to say, opening the link to the dress image was a surprise for everyone.
Some also added that her sister absolutely had the right to wear what she wanted but that OP also had the right to uninvited her if she wanted.
