A father who left with a refugee from Ukraine ten days after she moved in with his family has been barred from speaking to his ex. Anthony Garnett, 29, was ordered not to speak to Lorna, 28, who is the mother of their two girls, on July 13 after she filed a lawsuit against him for allegedly sending her abusive text messages.
Brit Who Ran Off With Ukrainian Refugee Struck With Restraining Order By His Ex
After Lorna, the mother of their two girls, brought Antony Garnett, 29, to court over claims that he had sent her abusive texts, the judge ordered that he cannot contact her.
Before falling in love with Lviv-born Sofiia Karkadym, 22, a refugee, he was also advised not to come within 100 meters of the home the two lived in Bradford.
Without making any admissions, Tony consented to the non-molestation restraining order.
He is not allowed to call, text, email, or connect with Lorna on social media.
Later, he said: “If it helps her sleep at night then so be it.”
“I know the truth. I’ve done nothing wrong. I didn’t turn up with a solicitor because I don’t have anything to defend myself. Sadly, this is turning into an episode of Jeremy Kyle.”
Although they are not married, Lorna legally took Tony's last name.
She has now agreed to delete earlier statements and refrain from posting any "derogatory" remarks about him online.
She fumed: “I want nothing to do with him. I just want him to leave me alone.”
Tony, who fled Ukraine after Russia's invasion in February, arrived before Bradford County Court wearing sunglasses and a grey suit with a striped pattern.
As Lorna's attorney, Sadia Ali, explained the specifics of the restraining order, she sat in the back of the court.
Tattooed Tony, who is launching a career as a rap artist, told the court: “I’m so busy now with media, TV, and music that I don’t need to go to the house.”
When Tony gave Sofiia a place to stay when she left her country, we described how he fell in love with her.
Sofiia flew in from Germany, where she had been waiting for her visa to be approved, and he picked her up at Manchester Airport.
She took a plane there from Poland.
After two weeks, Lorna started to get worried and asked Sofiia to leave.
Tony prepared his belongings and followed her.
He later apologized for the pain they had caused but insisted: “We’re planning the rest of our lives together. I knew I couldn’t give her up.”
"We never set out to do this. It wasn’t planned and we didn’t mean to hurt anyone.”
He added: “If the UK was invaded we’d hope the rest of the world would help.”
“That’s all I wanted to do, but things took a very unexpected twist.”
When Lorna claimed that Sofiia intended to steal her man, the IT worker responded, "I'm no homewrecker.”
Under government initiatives, there are over 54,000 Ukrainian refugees here.
