In an emotional video posted on her Instagram account over the weekend, Heming Willis appealed to the public to educate themselves about living with dementia, emphasizing the need for more awareness.
Bruce Willis' Wife Emma Asks Paparazzi To Stop Shouting At Husband After He Was Filmed In Public
Bruce Willis' wife pleaded with the paparazzi in an emotional video she posted to stop shouting at her husband when he was out in public.
After the Die Hard actor was caught on camera and captured in photos during a rare outing in Santa Monica last week, Emma Heming Willis also requested that the paparazzi maintain a safe distance.
The 67-year-old Hollywood icon was out in public for the first time since his family broke the heartbreaking news of his dementia diagnosis.
Willis posted a video to Instagram on Sunday 6 march that was apparently shot in the family's kitchen.
She captioned the post: “To other caregivers or dementia care specialists navigating this world…. Any tips or advice on how to get your loved ones out in the world safely?”
The model and mother-of-two, 44, was clearly moved during the clip. “So in service of raising awareness around dementia because that is my goal – if you are someone who is looking after someone with dementia you know how difficult and stressful it can be to get someone out into the world and just to navigate them safely. Even just to get a cup of coffee,” she began, before praising her husband’s friends for protecting him during the coffee trip.
“I’m just seeing headlines and there’s a video of my husband out getting some coffee with some friends who did a stand-up job of protecting him.”
Willis continues, probably after pausing to record the heartfelt plea: “So in the spirit of raising awareness of dementia, it’s clear that there is still a lot of education that needs to be put forth.”
“So this one is going out to the photographers and the video people [who] are trying to get those ‘exclusives’ of my husband out and about: just keep your space,” she said.
“I know this is your job but maybe just keep your space for the video people, please don’t be yelling at my husband asking how he’s doing or whatever — the woohooing and the yippee-ki-yays … just don’t do it. OK?”
“Give him his space. Allow for our family or whoever’s with him that day to be able to get him from point A to point B safely.”
The Willis family revealed last year that he had been diagnosed with aphasia, a neurological condition that affects cognition and communication.
His five daughters Rumer, Scout, Tallulah, Evelyn, and Mabel, as well as his ex-wife Demi Moore, gave an update on the Unbreakable star's health in February, confirming that his aphasia had now progressed into frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
