Austin Shifflett was a recluse. He locked himself in his bedroom with his soda, junk food, and video games. After he became depressed, he quickly ballooned up to 324 pounds.

But that wasn't the worst of it. His old "friends" starting referring to him as "fat boy" and he became the butt of every joke.

"I'm not a confrontational person so I would just laugh it off. I didn't want them to know it was getting to me."

Using bullying as motivation is not something people recommend. And few people are able to use it as a way to shed 160 pounds in one year.

But Austin Shifflett did just that. Now the young man has a body of a fitness model who would be paid thousands to appear on the cover of a magazine.

In order to avoid the crowds at the gym, Shifflett started doing his workouts late at night. He also used the Atkin's diet to shed dozens of pounds.

His persistence paid off. Now he has the body of a model. This picture shows him during one of his many late-night workouts.

What's amazing about Austin Shifflett's story is that he's not all about looking and feeling good. He's turned around and helped people get fit including some of the high school bullies who called him "fat boy".

"I want to tell others you have to learn to accept the failures," he told the Mirror. "I failed many times, but you can't give up."

And as another inspiration, Shifflett made it into People magazine which is known for only sharing pictures of the world's most beautiful.
