California Mom Gives Birth To Twins In Different Years

Maribel Valencia, 22, had her daughter Jaelyn at 11:59 p.m. on New Year's Eve 2015, and son Luis came just two minutes later, on Jan. 1, 2016, the Associated Press reported.

The twins were supposed to be due at the end of January, but the parents were rushed to a San Diego hospital on Thursday because one was in breech position, according to the station. The doctors told the expectant mother that she would have to deliver as soon as possible.

"We were actually watching the clock," the pleased father - also named Luis - told the local NBC television station. "We wanted to see if we were one of the first ones" born in the new year.

"It’s a big blessing to have two of them, a boy and a girl, for New Year’s," Mr. Valenica told ABC San Diego.

Mom and babies are doing fine and will join their three older sisters when they get home.
