Imagine you are visiting a country as a tourist and suddenly while going down the road you are chased by a suspicious car full of armed men. These two American tourists do not have to imagine this as they went through this traumatizing experience where they saw their life flash before their eyes and all they could do was to plead desperately for their lives to be spared only to learn that it was all a misunderstanding.
These two American tourists were driving through a remote back road in Mexico when they were chased by a car with heavily armed men. To say that they saw literally saw an angel of death standing right beside them would be an understatement.
Watch the desperate clip.
As they were pulled over, the panicked tourists started to plead with the cartel members to be spared while one of the tourists started to cry bitterly.
Their entire lives flashed before them and throwing their hands up in the air, with tears in their eyes, they begged for mercy and for their lives to be spared. However, it took only a few minutes for the situation to transform into a wholesome moment caught on the dashcam.
However, the cartel members could be heard saying 'gringo' -- a word for American/non-spanish speaker -- and immediately begin trying to comprehend the situation with comforting hands on the shoulder (all the while machine-gun toating onlookers can be seen hovering in the background).
People on the internet have speculated that the armed men in the video might possibly be local militia, who are hired to protect the locals against the cartel. Though it is impossible to judge who those people really were.
One of the armed men was also heard saying, "You can't just drive through private property." Now you can imagine the rest.
Even though certain parts of Mexico are known for aggression and violence, dealing the tourists with violence is considered somewhat taboo in the country as tourism constitutes a substantial source of income and yes money laundering via tourist hotspots and by way of an active customer base.
