Cary Elwes is a veteran actor both on screen and on stage. He has had some truly memorable roles in movies like Liar, Liar, Saw, and Robin Hood: Men in Tights. Chances are, you probably know him best for his role as Westley from the movie The Princess Bride.
Cary Elwes Reprised His Role From The Princess Bride For This Charming Culligan Water Commercial
His Role In The Princess Pride
Elwes plays a young farm boy who vanishes, becomes a Dread Pirate, returns to save his true love, and fights a bunch of people to get to her. He is basically everyone's favorite swashbuckling action hero when we were growing up. He was witty, quick-thinking, and unmatched with a sword.
He Would Do Anything For Love
What really shone through in the movie was his love for Buttercup and the fact that he would literally do anything to save her. He even almost died but was ultimately revived by a literal miracle during his quest to save her.
Love In Real Life
It really helped that Elwes and his co-star, Robin Wright, were totally smitten with each other during their filming of this movie. The chemistry definitely shows through their performance. The point of all of this is that Elwes is never not going to be Westley, and we are not the only ones who think so because Elwes reprised his role for the super charming commercial that he did for Culligan Water.
A New Role For Westley
Acting as a very Westley version of himself, Elwes is running around, doing chores involving water for a different princess, his daughter. Through the entire commercial, he portrays all of the grace, charm, and wittiness that he had for The Princess Bride making it look as if he has not aged one bit since the movie first aired.
The Commercial
There are a ton of references towards The Princess Bride. To begin with, the commercial starts with him reading from his own book in the same way that Peter Faulk's character does to Fred Savage in the original movie. And, every time he fulfills one of his daughter's requests, he says, "as you wish" just like he said to Buttercup in the movie. Check out the commercial here.
