Charlie Sheen proudly shares he's almost six years sober, inspired by a key moment with his daughter in 2017. Now focusing on single parenthood and a healthy routine, he is considering making a comeback in movies.
Charlie Sheen Reveals He's Nearly Six Years Sober After Heartbreaking Incident With Daughter
Charlie Sheen has disclosed that, after years of battling alcohol and drug addiction, he is almost six years sober.
With numerous awards to his credit, the actor and producer is well-known for his involvement in some of Hollywood's biggest projects.
Even with all the glamour and fame, Sheen has previously discussed his struggles with drugs and alcohol.
However, following a devastating event involving his daughter, Sheen made the decision to give up alcohol permanently.
As he approaches his sixth year of sobriety in January, the actor is feeling pretty good about himself these days.
Speaking to People, Sheen said: "Next month I'll be six years sober. I have a very consistent lifestyle now. It's all about single dad stuff, and raising my 14-year-old twin boys Max and Bob."
The boys' mother, Brooke Mueller, has previously discussed her struggles with addiction.
Sheen continued: "Now I wake up early, around 4:30 or 5 a.m., get an early jump on the news, work out, answer emails.”
"Then I get the kids up and help them with their morning routine — if you can call it a routine."
Sheen used to start each day with a drop of alcohol, so his morning ritual now is considerably different from what it was about six years ago.
"I loved drinking in the morning," he recalled. "Loved some scotch in the coffee."
However, it was a hungover day in 2017 that led him to drastically alter his way of life, all because of his daughter.
Sheen said: "One morning I'd forgotten my daughter had an appointment I'd promised to drive her to, and I'd already had a couple of pops that day.”
"So had to call my friend Tony to take us. We got her there on time, but it broke my heart because she was in the backseat and I could just tell she was thinking, 'Why isn't dad driving?' So I got home and sat with that for the rest of the day. And the next morning I just stopped."
Right then and there, the actor gave up drinking completely.
"I think the first month I was like, I'm going to have to give it a month, just see if I feel any better, and if my interactions with those that are closest to me improve," he told People.
"And they did. And I'm like, all right, I'm going to go another month. And then it got traction. I had momentum."
Now that his health has recovered, Sheen is exploring the possibility of making a movie comeback.
Charlie Sheen's six years of sobriety show his victory over addiction, embracing a disciplined life.
As he considers returning to movies, his journey inspires hope for a brighter future beyond substance abuse.
