People who’ve been through the heartbreak of being cheated on are now speaking up. They’re pointing out one particular red flag that they say often gets overlooked but could be a serious hint your partner is cheating.

For many, cheating is considered one of the biggest betrayals you can face in a relationship. It’s often something people say would be a dealbreaker.

But as relationship dynamics shift and definitions of cheating get murkier, it’s not always easy to tell when something’s off. Spotting signs of dishonesty can feel tricky, especially when the warning signs aren’t obvious.

Now, several users have weighed in on a Reddit thread that posed the question: "What's the biggest 'they're definitely cheating' sign you ignored?"

One person mentioned how their partner constantly changed their phone password, blaming it on “security.” But there’s another recurring theme that a lot of people mentioned. It’s a pattern that relies heavily on reverse psychology.

In fact, one Reddit user shared their story and said: "Constantly asking where I was and accusing me of cheating lol. I worked 12+ hour shifts at a remote oil plant. When the f*** was I getting time to get some d*** on the side? I had to strategically plan grocery shops."

Another person chimed in with: "Bizarrely accusing me of cheating with no reason, evidence, or provocation."

Someone else shared this experience: "Accusing me of cheating, when it never even occurred to me to cheat."

And a fourth recalled their situation, saying: "He got paranoid and kept wanting to check my messages. I thought it was insecurity. He was talking to a mutual friend about moving across the country with her."

There are also people who’ve turned catching cheaters into a full-time job. One of them is Cassie Crofts, a private investigator whose day-to-day involves helping people confirm suspicions about their partners.

She runs an agency in Australia called Venus Investigations. Through her work, she helps clients figure out if their partner is being faithful or not. She also conducts dating background checks.

Cassie explained how she goes about helping clients. It all begins with mapping out a timeline and understanding what raised the alarm in the first place.

"We try, wherever possible, to sort of identify a particular date where we think something's going to happen." she explained during the interview.

"Like, you know, he's flagged a couple of days in advance that he's going to be working late, or there's a trip to go see his cousin and you've never heard of this cousin. What's going on, that kind of thing."

She went on to explain how her investigations usually progress based on the client’s goals.

"I sort of build out an investigation plan for them based on what's a successful outcome. And then we talk through costings and how long we're willing to do this for, and they get a daily update on where things are at."

"So occasionally it will have been three days and we haven't found anything, and they're like, 'Look, at this point, it looks like he's doing everything he says he is. We'll call it there'."

"And some people want to keep going a bit longer. There's always that conversation with the client around you know, 'it's been two weeks'."
