Tim Mason, who was born with significant disabilities to a mother who was devastated by the biggest nuclear disaster in history, reveals his inspiring tale of grit and resilience to prove to the world that nothing can stop him.
Chernobyl Child Born With Half A Body Determined To Live 'Independently'
Tim Mason is not allowing anything to stop him.
Due to the high radiation levels his birth mother was exposed to during the 1986 Chernobyl tragedy, he is missing both of his legs and one arm.
The 25-year-old said on Good Morning America that his biological mother abandoned him because she "did not want to raise a monster" and left him in a Moscow orphanage.
Despite having lost half of his body, Tim was able to identify his real mother in American woman Virginia Mason, and various ways to define the orphanage's worries that he would never find a loving home.
"She knew I would be fine as I looked over and made fish faces at her," Tim said.
Tim first utilized prosthetics as a child before moving to the US at the age of three.
He records everything on TikTok, where he shares his funny perspective on life and demonstrates to the world that he is just like any other 25-year-old guy.
Most recently, he has been blogging about his new hobby of working out to acquire swole.
In 2021, "One Limb Tim"—his words, not ours—lost a staggering 18 kg.
"Exercising is an amazing hobby," he said after his epic weight loss.
"I use the treadmill for about 10 to 30 minutes and I do my own version of weightlifting and crunches."
The man from Connecticut said that he frequently gets inquiries on social media about how he finds the time to exercise despite his health issues.
But he had a very clear message for you about it.
He said that his fitness quest had maintained him "physically and mentally healthy."
Tim remarked that while he does experience a lot of hate, he has learned how to remain composed and go forward.
"There is a lot of doubt in what I can do. It can be discouraging," he said. "But I am here and making it through."
He continued by expressing his gratitude for the good that social media can also bring.
"I have seen so many positive comments and it means the world to me," he said.
People are occasionally hesitant to ask inquiries, the 25-year-old continued, but there is one inquiry in particular that he receives fairly frequently.
"I am frequently asked how I go to the bathroom which I find hilarious," he revealed.
